Winnipeg’s Pro Israel Community Reacts To Rockets Attack As Israeli Dies

Updated: May 5, 2019

A massive barrage of over 300 rockets was launched by terrorists from Gaza aimed at south and central Israel Saturday killing a man in his 60s and injuring an elderly woman in Kiryat Gat and at least 2 other men in Ashkelon. Long-range missiles also targeted Israel’s Shfela region, and Code Red sirens were heard for the first time today in Be'ersheva, 40 km east of Gaza, where 2 Israeli border patrol soldiers, a male and a female, were taken for treatment Friday after being wounded by a sniper. An IDF air strike in response killed 2 Hamas militarists and injured 2 others in a compound.

TheJ.ca sought out reaction from the community to the escalation of violence from Gaza:

“My heart hurts for the children who this is their realty. For the families that live under fire It gets harder and harder to believe that change and peace are a real option. Being far away has its own hardship Being far from family and friends in their time of need.”

Shula Haims

"My heart is with my brothers the citizens of south Israel. I hope that both Israelis and Palestinians will do better job electing their leaders next time. There is no military solution for the Israeli Palestinian conflict (not one that we cane live with). Only peace process will stop this vicious circle."

Alex Haims

"I’m angry at what Israelis are enduring in southern Israel. What makes me angrier is the horrible reporting done by media outlets making it look like Israel started it."

Shirli Vilenski East

"The latest rocket fire into Israel from Gaza is another attempt by Hamas and Islamic Jihad to escalate the conflict and disturb Israelis in their daily lives. Instead of focusing on building a just and a viable society for Palestinians living in Gaza, Hamas concentrates all resources into destroying Israel. Hamas have threatened to disturb the Eurovision which is scheduled for May 14-18. They are demonstrating once again, that there are those who build and there are those who seek to destroy."

Yolanda Pipini-Pollock, Winnipeg Friends of Israel

"The on-going barbaric missile attacks on Israel's civilian population are heartbreaking. Times it brings me back bad memories from when I was under that barrage of fire. It’s clearly that the Hammas puts pressure on Israel for the upcoming events of Yom Ha'atzmaut and the Eurovision song contest."

Danny Kaufman

"We are thinking about our friends and family in Israel who are being put in danger. We pray for the safety of the families who are being threatened by enemies who don’t value life."

Winnipeg Chapter of Na'Amat

"Once again we witness first hand the blatant disregard for life shown by Hamas, and once again, the rest of the world takes non-issue with this until Israel responds. Not only does Hamas endanger Jewish lives by their rocket fire, but they are putting their own citizens at risk as well."

Richard Weiss (IDF veteran)
