Federation, Bridges For Peace, Honour Distinguished Volunteers And Leaders In Ceremonies

The annual Kavod evening in tribute to the outstanding people who give their time and efforts to the Jewish community, took place Thursday at Etz Chaim Synagogue.

The Major Awards were bestowed by the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg upon Sharon Allentuck and Bryan Klein, while David Carr and Courtney Feldman were recognized in the Young Leadership category and Evelyn Hecht received the Larry Hurtig Jewish Communal Professional Award.

In addition a bakers' dozen from notable community organizations were shown appreciation with the awarding of Shem Tov accolades for their contributions.

It was a busy evening for supporters of the Jewish community, as the interfaith group Bridges For Peace also held their annual fundraising banquet at My Church on Wilkes Avenue.

Restoration: The People, The Land, the Bible, in support of Operation Ezra projects also honoured Rev. Eric Malloy, National Director of the organization on his retirement.

His successor is Rev. Peter Fast, who has an M.A. in Judeo-Christian Relations and is well regarded as a friend of Israel and the Jewish people.

A key goal of the group is "To counter anti-Semitism worldwide and support Israel’s divine God-given right to exist in her God-given land."
