During a recent conference in Munich, the President of the State of Israel Isaac Herzog and Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev met, where the Israeli President congratulated Aliyev on his recent victory in the Azerbaijani elections.  In the meeting, Herzog told Aliyev: ““Under your leadership, Azerbaijan has built and sustained two decades of stability, economic development, and religious freedoms. I am certain that your re-election will continue to ensure a bright future of prosperity for your nation.”

He continued: “The State of Israel deeply values its relationship with the Republic of Azerbaijan. Our bilateral ties provide vital economic, security, and political benefits, and we are committed to this robust and ongoing partnership.”

According to Herzog, “I am personally thankful for the opportunity to work with you to further build and enhance the bonds between Azerbaijan and Israel. I will remain ever grateful and humbled by warm and moving hospitality that you showed Michal and myself during our visit to your beautiful nation last year. I look forward to working with you to continue deepening the ties between our nations, as we strive to promote our mutual interests in the years to come.”

Israel’s partnership with Azerbaijan is strategic, as both countries are struggling against the mullahs in Tehran and radical Islamism. Recently, it was reported that Israel is the number one exporter of Azerbaijani oil, which has proven to be of critical use as Israel fights against the Hamas terror organization. To date, the Aliyev government has demonstrated their willingness to ignore calls by the BDS Movement to cut off ties with Israel.

However, the friendship between the Jewish and Azerbaijani people goes beyond security and oil.  Azerbaijan is a country known for its multiculturalism, pluralism and religious tolerance.  In its reports, the US State Department has documented zero instances of anti-Semitism in the Caucuses country. In Oghuz, the synagogues are even left unlocked at night, as the people live a life free of anti-Semitism in Azerbaijan. However, Jews in other Caucuses countries face a different reality.

Following the talks, Jewish leaders discussed the distress of the Jewish community in Armenia, who has fallen victim to violent anti-Semitism. According to the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs latest report, following the October 7 terror attack, “Armenian social networks were quick to respond positively to the Hamas attack and share mass propaganda produced by Hamas. This action was accompanied by harsh criticism of Israel, explicit demands to support Hamas, and comparisons between Israel, Azerbaijan, and Nazi Germany.”

Additionally, the report mentioned that “Vladimir Poghosyan, a prominent anti-Israel political commentator and previous holder of official security positions, who is known for his harsh antisemitic leanings, has openly threatened the Jews and Israel, repeatedly calling for attacks on Jews. As a result of this violent rhetoric, the small Jewish community in Armenia has often been victim to antisemitic harassment, which culminated in two attempts to burn down the only synagogue in the country.”

We have exposed the distorted hateful agenda of the “progressive” left political radicals who brought Linda Sarsour to our cities, and we were first to report on many disturbing incidents of Nazi-based hate towards Jews across Canada.
