In a rare and dramatic move, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) finds itself on the defensive, battling accusations of premeditated murder. While the immunity of UN agencies traditionally shields them from legal repercussions, avenues exist to hold UN officials accountable in civil or criminal cases.

After 36 years of investigative work, a news and research agency is set to challenge UNRWA in court in Jerusalem. Their aim? To personally hold the head of UNRWA, Philippe Lazzarini, responsible for alleged premeditated murder. Additionally, charges will be pressed against Lazzarini at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.

Funds are being raised to support the legal claim and cover initial research costs. In Canada, the Canadian Antisemitism Education Foundation (CAEF) https://www.caef.ca/ is leading efforts to gather resources for legal action against Lazzarini. The goal is clear: to bring criminal charges and present evidence of complicity in premeditated murder in both the court of law and the court of public opinion.

At the heart of the allegations are several egregious violations of UN law attributed to Lazzarini and UNRWA:

  1. Arming Schools: UNRWA schools have allegedly become massive arsenals of weapons, a blatant violation of UN regulations.
  2. Weaponizing Children: Thousands of children are purportedly being armed under Lazzarini’s watch, contravening UN mandates.
  3. Endorsing Violence: Textbooks disseminated by UNRWA reportedly endorse mass murder of Jews, a clear violation of UN principles.
  4. Promoting Terrorism: Some textbooks allegedly present murderers as role models, glorifying acts of violence in direct opposition to UN standards.
  5. Celebrating Violence: Murals depicting individuals involved in violent acts adorn UNRWA schools, flouting UN regulations.
  6. Erasing Israel: New UN maps allegedly aim to obliterate Israel, violating established UN laws and norms.

The legal proceedings aim to secure a conviction of Philippe Lazzarini as an accessory to murder, holding him accountable for his alleged role in these violations. However, the outcome of the trial remains uncertain, and there is no guarantee that Lazzarini will face trial in a glass booth, a symbolic feature often associated with high-profile criminal cases.

As the legal battle intensifies, it underscores the gravity of the accusations against UNRWA and the pressing need for accountability within international organizations.
