In a heartwarming display of community spirit, Winnipeg recently played host to a group of young Israeli hockey players from the Metulla Hockey Club who have been displaced from their homes due to the ongoing war. The initiative, driven by Abby Flackman and a dedicated committee, aimed to provide these athletes with a much-needed respite from the challenges they have been facing.

Community members, along with the committee, swiftly organized a comprehensive program, securing generous donations that included practice ice time, lodging, transportation, winter clothing, and financial support. The outcome surpassed expectations, creating an unforgettable experience for the 13 athletes who have faced significant disruptions in their lives due to the war.

Generosity poured in from various quarters, with True North Sports and Entertainment playing a pivotal role by providing daily ice time at the Hockey for All Centre, along with instructors and jerseys. The athletes, who had limited opportunities to play hockey back home, felt right at home on Winnipeg’s ice and were embraced by the city.

Beyond the rink, the athletes enjoyed a diverse range of experiences, from campus visits to cultural workshops and museum tours. The community’s warmth and hospitality left a lasting impression on the group, creating memories that extend beyond the realm of sports.

Thank you for choosing TheJ.Ca as your source for Canadian Jewish News.

We do news differently!

Our positioning as a Zionist News Media platform sets us apart from the rest. While other Canadian Jewish media are advocating increasingly biased progressive political and social agendas, TheJ.Ca is providing more and more readers with a welcome alternative and an ideological home.

We revealed the incursion of anti-Israel progressive elements such as IfNotNow into our communities. We have exposed the distorted hateful agenda of the “progressive” left political radicals who brought Linda Sarsour to our cities, and we were first to report on many disturbing incidents of Nazi-based hate towards Jews across Canada.

But we can’t do it alone. We need your HELP!

Our ability to thrive and grow in 2020 and beyond depends on the generosity of committed readers and supporters like you.

Monthly support is a great way to help us sustain our operations. We greatly appreciate any contributions you can make to support Jewish Journalism.
