Jewish Story Partners (JSP), a non-profit film funding organization based in Los Angeles, has announced the recipients of its latest round of grants. With $450,000 distributed among 18 documentary films, JSP continues its mission to support independent films that expand and diversify the Jewish narrative. Since its establishment in April 2021, JSP has awarded approximately $2.5 million to 85 projects.

Responding to the critical funding gap for independent films telling Jewish stories, JSP not only provides financial support but also offers advisory services to filmmakers at key points in their creative process. The latest grantees include works from accomplished filmmakers such as Anne Aghion, Dan Habib, Mark Jonathan Harris, Rachel Leah Jones, Jacob Kornbluth, Marlene McCurtis, and Bernadette Wegenstein.

In light of the escalating antisemitism, particularly post-October 7th, and the persistent Holocaust denial, JSP introduces two new funds: the Holocaust Film Fund and the Antisemitism and the Ecosystem of Hate Film Fund. The former supports documentaries about the Holocaust, while the latter focuses on exploring antisemitism and its connections to other forms of group-based hate.

To further its impact, JSP launches the Education-Impact Program, partnering with distributor Good Docs to underwrite 600+ free screenings of three JSP-funded documentaries annually. This initiative aims to reach non-profits, schools, and religious institutions, fostering a broader understanding of Jewish stories.

Co-Executive Directors of JSP, Caroline Libresco, and Roberta Grossman, emphasized the importance of supporting films that elucidate complex realities and reflect a range of Jewish stories, perspectives, and experiences. The Fall 2023 funding round was judged by a panel including Alysa Nahmias, Elise Pearlstein, and Jennifer Tiexiera.

The jury commended the selected documentaries for refusing reductionism or stereotypes, revealing a multiplicity of untold global Jewish stories. At a time of fractured truth and connection, these projects aim to expand collective memory and enhance the sense of shared humanity.

Among the projects previously supported by JSP are works from renowned filmmakers such as Kate Amend, Sandi DuBowski, Paula Eiselt, David France, Jennie Livingston, Luke Lorentzen, Marilyn Ness, Pratibha Parmar, Maxim Pozdorovkin, Petter Ringbom, Marquise Stillwell, Joey Soloway, Regina Spektor, and Dan Sturman.

Several JSP-funded films have already made an impact, with screenings at prestigious festivals and nominations for awards. The organization has also opened its call for entries for feature-length documentaries by U.S.-based producers and/or directors, with submissions accepted until January 26, 2024.

Thank you for choosing TheJ.Ca as your source for Canadian Jewish News.

We do news differently!

Our positioning as a Zionist News Media platform sets us apart from the rest. While other Canadian Jewish media are advocating increasingly biased progressive political and social agendas, TheJ.Ca is providing more and more readers with a welcome alternative and an ideological home.

We revealed the incursion of anti-Israel progressive elements such as IfNotNow into our communities. We have exposed the distorted hateful agenda of the “progressive” left political radicals who brought Linda Sarsour to our cities, and we were first to report on many disturbing incidents of Nazi-based hate towards Jews across Canada.

But we can’t do it alone. We need your HELP!

Our ability to thrive and grow in 2020 and beyond depends on the generosity of committed readers and supporters like you.

Monthly support is a great way to help us sustain our operations. We greatly appreciate any contributions you can make to support Jewish Journalism.

We thank you for your ongoing support.
