In a bold move, more than 550 Jewish physicians affiliated with the University of Toronto’s Temerty Faculty of Medicine (TFOM) have come forward to express their distress over the selective criticism of Israel, the double standards applied, and the silence surrounding the recent massacre of Jews on October 7. The core issue at hand is the targeting of Israel solely because it is a Jewish state, a sentiment that has deeply affected the Jewish physician community within the TFOM.

Some colleagues have been accused of perpetuating antisemitic tropes, with Israel facing allegations of genocide while being targeted by Hamas, an organization openly declaring its genocidal intentions towards Jews. This situation mirrors historical antisemitic accusations against Jews, and the Jewish physicians are adamant about not letting antisemites define what is antisemitic for them.

In response to these challenges, the 555 Jewish physician faculty members have issued a public statement asserting their right to openly identify as Zionists without facing censure. They emphasize the need to define antisemitism on their terms and resist attempts by antizionists to dictate this definition.

The 555 physicians are taking a firm stand against colleagues promoting antizionism and other forms of antisemitism. They express their commitment to supporting Jewish faculty and learners who feel fear within the TFOM, refusing to back down in the face of adversity.

Furthermore, the group denounces leaders in academic medicine who issue statements contradicting equity, diversity, and inclusion for Jews. They argue that academic freedom, while important, is not absolute and should not compromise the safety and well-being of Jewish faculty and learners.

We do news differently!

Our positioning as a Zionist News Media platform sets us apart from the rest. While other Canadian Jewish media are advocating increasingly biased progressive political and social agendas, TheJ.Ca is providing more and more readers with a welcome alternative and an ideological home.

We revealed the incursion of anti-Israel progressive elements such as IfNotNow into our communities. We have exposed the distorted hateful agenda of the “progressive” left political radicals who brought Linda Sarsour to our cities, and we were first to report on many disturbing incidents of Nazi-based hate towards Jews across Canada.

But we can’t do it alone. We need your HELP!

Our ability to thrive and grow in 2020 and beyond depends on the generosity of committed readers and supporters like you.

Monthly support is a great way to help us sustain our operations. We greatly appreciate any contributions you can make to support Jewish Journalism.
