In a heartwarming display of sportsmanship and cultural exchange, the tennis courts of Toronto became the backdrop for a unique gathering of young talent from Israel Tennis & Education Centers (ITEC) and a spirited team of U12 Canadian players. This remarkable exchange, spanning from August 9 to 16, transcended competition, forging bonds that extended far beyond the boundaries of the tennis court.
The event, organized by Michael Downey, President & CEO of Tennis Canada, and the Tennis Canada team, under the leadership of Oded “Dedi” Jacob, marked a week of intensive training and spirited competitions. The highlight of the week was Canada’s U12 Team Cup competition, where these young athletes showcased their skills and sportsmanship.
Amy Harrington, ITEC Executive Director, Canada, described how the exchange fostered a unique cultural dialogue. “After a while, the Israelis were teaching the Canadian players Hebrew, and the Canadians were teaching the Israelis a few French words,” Harrington shared. “The Canadians had lots of questions about Israel and daily life. Together they explored the group’s mixture of Jewish, Christian, and Muslim heritages, teaching one another and letting curiosity lead the way.”
ITEC’s mission extends beyond the tennis court. It seeks to strengthen relationships between Israel and other nations while promoting lifelong friendships. Events like these serve as the foundation for future ambassadors who will represent both Israel and Canada, bridging the gap between the two nations through the sport they love.
This remarkable sporting exchange will continue with the Canadian team’s visit to Israel in November, marking the next leg of the Team Cup journey.
But tennis wasn’t the only focus of this cross-cultural exchange. ITEC and Tennis Canada collaborated on a giveback opportunity, partnering with the San Romanoway Revitalization Association, a nonprofit social service agency dedicated to aiding at-risk children and youth in the community. In the Jane & Finch Community of Toronto, the teams hosted a clinic, providing valuable tennis coaching and camaraderie to local youth.

The event received additional support from Philpott Children’s Tennis, who contributed coaches and tennis equipment, making the event a memorable experience for all involved.
In a world often marked by divisions, these young athletes proved that the love of sport and the willingness to learn from one another can build bridges of friendship and understanding. Through tennis, Canada and Israel have set an inspiring example of the power of sports to unite nations.

We revealed the incursion of anti-Israel progressive elements such as IfNotNow into our communities. We have exposed the distorted hateful agenda of the “progressive” left political radicals who brought Linda Sarsour to our cities, and we were first to report on many disturbing incidents of Nazi-based hate towards Jews across Canada.
