In a landmark event, the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) and Canada’s Jewish Federations will host “Antisemitism: Face It, Fight It” on October 16 and 17, marking the first wide-scale convening of Canada’s Jewish community. This significant conference aims to address and combat one of the most pressing challenges of our time: antisemitism.
The two-day conference, taking place in Ottawa, promises a comprehensive agenda that includes advocacy training, seminars featuring Canadian and international experts, and direct engagements with decision-makers. “Antisemitism: Face It, Fight It” intends to mobilize hundreds of Jewish Canadians and community allies, spanning different ethnic and faith backgrounds, to empower, educate, and unite in the fight against hate and antisemitism.
Gail Adelson-Marcovitz, Chair of the National Board of Directors of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, emphasizes the urgency of the conference, stating, “Jew-hate cannot be permitted to thrive unchecked in Canada; we cannot afford to be complacent. This will be Canada’s most significant response to antisemitism ever.”
The event will bring together Jewish community members from across Canada, political leaders, parliamentarians, public officials, academics, law enforcement representatives, advocacy professionals, and over 100 student leaders from Canadian campuses. The conference will explore two central themes: how to recognize and confront antisemitism.
Topics covered during the sessions will include defining and identifying antisemitism, global best practices in fighting hate, the role of ethnic and faith-based allies in combatting hate, the legal aspects of hate crimes, social media literacy regarding online hate, becoming an activist, engaging elected officials, and maintaining pride and love for Judaism and Israel in the face of anti-Jewish racism.
Programming highlights include a Parliamentary Gala featuring key elected officials, meetings on Parliament Hill with Members of Parliament and senators, an exclusive live taping of “Curse of Politics: The Herle Burly Political Panel,” and the release of a groundbreaking report on the relationship between hate crimes targeting the Jewish community in Canada and online antisemitism, co-published by The Network Contagion Research Institute and CIJA.
Notable experts from across the globe will share their insights at the conference, including Arsen Ostrovsky, CEO of The International Legal Forum; Gil Troy, Author, and Scholar; Farah Pandith, Senior Advisor at the Anti-Defamation League (ADL); Dr. Ayelet Kuper, Physician, and Interdisciplinary Scholar; and Lord John Mann, Independent Adviser on Antisemitism to the UK Government, among others.

The timing of this conference is crucial. Antisemitism is on the rise worldwide, and Canada is not immune. Alarmingly, Statistics Canada reported that incidents of Jew-hatred increased, even as overall religiously motivated hate crimes declined in 2022. Jews, constituting just 1% of the Canadian population, were victims in 67% of all religiously motivated hate incidents and 14% of overall reported hate crimes.
“Antisemitism isn’t just a real and present threat today, it’s a problem growing at a frightening rate,” warns CIJA President and CEO, Shimon Koffler Fogel. He emphasizes that the fight against antisemitism must involve all Canadians, as hate of any kind perpetuates more hate. Fogel states, “We must all be changemakers, united as allies and partners to fight all hate.”
“Antisemitism: Face It, Fight It” marks a turning point and a catalyst for change in addressing this wave of Jew-hatred. It kickstarts a comprehensive, national initiative to combat antisemitism in Canada. After two days of discussion and education, participants will leave equipped with a plan of action to ensure that both the political sector and the public understand the profound impact of antisemitism.
This conference is open to the public, with tickets available for both Monday and Tuesday ($475 + tax) or Tuesday only ($300 + tax).
