A teacher at Nessacus Regional Middle School in Dalton, Morrison Robblee, has been subjected to harassment by a sixth-grade student after revealing his Jewish identity in February. The 25-year-old teacher, Morrison Robblee, faced derogatory comments and incidents of hate from the student, leading to a charge of criminal harassment.
According to Insider, the incidents escalated when Robblee tried to quiet his students one day and the student began using homophobic slurs. As a result, the teacher removed the student from the class. A “restorative circle” was later held, but the student remained silent during the meeting.
The situation took a turn for the worse in April when Robblee wore a yarmulke in class for Passover, prompting the student to make hateful comments about it. The student then gave Robblee a sketch of Hitler standing over a dead person labeled “Jew,” accompanied by swastikas and canisters labeled “gas.”
Despite the student’s suspension and removal from Robblee’s class, the harassment persisted in the hallways, with the student making jokes about the Holocaust, including gas chambers. The student also sent insulting emails to the teacher about his teaching.
Robblee filed a complaint with his union in May, citing an unsafe work environment. He expressed concerns about the student’s potential radicalization and warned of the risk of violence if appropriate intervention was not taken. However, the district responded by placing Robblee on administrative leave, citing allegations made by the student against the teacher.
Superintendent Leslie Blake-Davis declined to discuss specific incidents due to confidentiality reasons but mentioned that the district handles hate or bias incidents by initially removing the student from the classroom for investigation while providing educational services.

The district then applies either “accountable consequences,” such as detention or suspensions, or “restorative interventions,” including anti-bias training. Parents are informed, and if necessary, law enforcement is contacted. The district also plans to introduce the No Place For Hate Club, a student-led initiative, in the middle school.
The Dalton Police Department filed a misdemeanor charge of criminal harassment against the student in Pittsfield Juvenile Court. The court clerk will determine whether the case should proceed after a show-cause hearing. The Berkshire District Attorney’s Office is collaborating with the Anti-Defamation League and Jewish Federation of the Berkshires to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Robblee made the difficult decision to quit his job, citing a lack of serious attention to his concerns by administrators. The incidents of harassment and the district’s response raise concerns about the handling of hate and bias incidents in schools, emphasizing the need for effective measures and support to create a safe learning environment for all students.
