Canadian Jewish leader Shimon Koffler Fogel has voiced concerns over the upcoming “Anti-Racist Solidarity and the Fight for Justice in Palestine” conference in Toronto. Organized by Independent Jewish Voices (IJV), the conference is scheduled to take place from June 16 and 17.
One of its featured speakers is Omar Barghouti, the co-founder of the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement.
Barghouti has been explicit about his objective of opposing a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. Fogel, president and CEO of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, emphasizes that IJV’s endorsement of Barghouti’s views contradicts the pursuit of peace and universal rights. According to Fogel, the inclusion of Barghouti as a speaker indicates that IJV supports a one-state framework, which seeks to dismantle the Jewish state.
Fogel stresses that IJV does not represent the Canadian Jewish community as a whole and regards the group as a fringe minority. He cautions against giving them undue credibility and suggests that those who support IJV may be driven by their own anti-Israel political agendas, rather than genuine concern for human rights.
Another speaker scheduled at the conference is Shatha Ayman, who has expressed support for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). The PFLP is listed as a terrorist entity by the Canadian government, raising further questions about the conference’s lineup.
The involvement of these speakers has sparked a broader debate about the conference’s intentions and the message it aims to convey. Critics argue that by providing a platform for individuals who openly oppose the existence of a Jewish state and align with designated terrorist groups, IJV undermines its credibility as an advocate for anti-racism.

Fogel emphasizes that while freedom of speech is important, it is equally crucial to scrutinize the platforms provided and the ideas promoted. He urges the public to consider the motivations behind IJV’s conference lineup and to question whether it genuinely supports peace and justice or serves as a platform for promoting divisive and extreme views.
As the conference approaches, it remains to be seen how the event will unfold and what impact it will have on the discourse surrounding Israel, Palestine, and anti-racism initiatives.
The Canadian Jewish community, represented by leaders like Fogel, continues to monitor the situation closely and express concerns about the messages being disseminated by the conference’s speakers.

We revealed the incursion of anti-Israel progressive elements such as IfNotNow into our communities. We have exposed the distorted hateful agenda of the “progressive” left political radicals who brought Linda Sarsour to our cities, and we were first to report on many disturbing incidents of Nazi-based hate towards Jews across Canada.
But we can’t do it alone. We need your HELP!
