This week, Azerbaijan’s Tourism Board hosted a special exhibition titled “Azerbaijan through the lens of Israeli photographers.” The exhibition that took place on June 7th in the Azerbaijan Tourism Board offices is a collaboration between the Azerbaijani Tourism Office in Israel and Photo Tips, an Israeli photography school that offers photography workshops in Israel and all around the world. Azerbaijan is a personal favorite of photographer Victor Zislin, the school owner and one of the leading photography mentors in Israel. Victor led three professional photography tours to Azerbaijan in the past few years.
Jamilya Talibzadeh, Azerbaijan’s Tourism Attaché, made opening remarks of the event by introducing Victor Zislin and praising his wonderful work. Plus, she expressed her gratitude for having chosen their office to display their wonderful work.
There is no better way to showcase the story of the beautiful Azerbaijan than by the amazing pictures taken during the Photo Tips’ photography tours to Azerbaijan by a group of İsraeli photographers. The exhibition presented 20 of the best pictures taken by Zislin and his students. At the event, Zislin stated: “Our photography school has done 20 tours around the world and many of them have been to Azerbaijan because I really love Azerbaijan.”
Zislin claimed that his job as a photographer is very easy because he does not need to sell anything or explain how Azerbaijan is wonderful: “All you have to see is the pictures and you will really want to go. I am standing here and I am really excited to see our amazing results. For me, it is even more exciting to see a beautiful picture by some of the people that were with me than my own. For me, it is the biggest pleasure in the world.” He noted that the photos in the exhibition were taken during three tours to Azerbaijan: “I am ready for another tour of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is endless.”
According to Zislin, people often joke about photographers that all they have to do is press click, but he stressed that good photography is more complicated than that: “In order to get very beautiful and impressive pictures, our job is not really easy. Anyone can take a snapshot, but to take an impressive artistic vision of what we see, it is not that easy, but still from a marketing perspective, our job is easy, as one picture is worth a thousand words. All we have to do to tell a story is to show a beautiful, moving and impressive picture.”
Zislin compared photography to food: “You can either make a simple sandwich or a gourmet dish. It is the same with photography. I have been to Azerbaijan more than 10 times. I really love this country. The people are amazing and the country is beautiful. In Israel, Azerbaijan is not really known. It is an enigma. I don’t really know why. But my job as a photographer is to promote it.”

Zislin noted that there is a big misconception in Israel regarding whether Israelis are allowed to go to Azerbaijan or not. However, he stressed that Israelis can go to Azerbaijan and there are many beautiful places to see there, such as dessert, mountains and urban landscapes as well: “They are very friendly there. Azerbaijan is amazing as a photographer. It is the most amazing picture of architecture, landscape, people, culture and religion. Although they are majority Muslim, the country is very tolerant to all kinds of religions. In Azerbaijan, everyone lives together and celebrates all of the holidays together.“
Zislin described Baku as Dubai on the Caspian: “There are beautiful amazing buildings and architecture. Also, you have mosques that look ancient but are from 2013. The Flame Towers are beautiful at night. The Heydar Aliyev Center is one of the most amazing buildings I have ever saw. It has amazing angles. It is beautiful anytime of day. You should really pay a visit. For us photographers, the most amazing pictures are taken outside. You can imagine what you can do from a photographic point of view.”
He concluded: “The landscape is amazing. You have dessert, mountains and many other natural sites. One should travel outside of Baku. Azerbaijan is much more than Baku. If you visit Azerbaijan in the fall, the birds are amazing. There are green fields, flowers and much culture. The food is amazing, as is the tea. It is a really amazing experience.”
Azerbaijani young diaspora member Raphael Nabizade underlined that he is grateful for Israeli photographers for showing beauty of Azerbaijan through their lens.

We revealed the incursion of anti-Israel progressive elements such as IfNotNow into our communities.
