Azerbaijani Canadians joined together across the country to celebrate Azerbaijan Independence Day on May 28. Festive events were held in various cities, showcasing the vibrant Azerbaijani community’s pride and culture. The highlight of the celebrations included flag raising ceremonies in prominent locations and a spectacular illumination of Niagara Falls, capturing the essence of this significant day.
In Ottawa, the capital city of Canada, an extraordinary milestone was reached as the Azerbaijani flag was raised for the first time at Parliament Hill. This historic event was attended by 150 Azerbaijani community members residing in Ottawa, who took immense pride in witnessing this honorable moment. The ceremony was graced by the presence of MP Chandra Arya, Charge de Faire of Azerbaijan in Canada Vasif Abutalibov, and the newly assigned Ambassador of Türkiye in Canada Esra Demir. The flag raising symbolized the deep-rooted connection between Azerbaijan and Canada, fostering mutual understanding and cultural exchange. The historic ceremony was organized by the Azerbaijan Veten Art and Culture Center.
Similarly in Toronto, the heart of Ontario, the National Flag of Azerbaijan was proudly raised in front of the legislative building. The ceremony was organized by the Azerbaijan Veten Art and Culture Center and brought together members of the Ontario Parliament, representatives of the Azerbaijani community, and dignitaries from friendly nations. The flag raising symbolized the deep-rooted connection between Azerbaijan and Canada, fostering mutual understanding and cultural exchange.
Similarly, in Calgary, representatives of the local Azerbaijani community gathered in front of City Hall to raise the Azerbaijan flag. The ceremony was a joint effort between the “Alberta Azerbaijani Cultural Society” (ALACS) and “Azeri Calgary Stars,” highlighting the unity and shared pride of Azerbaijanis in the region. The flag raising ceremony resonated with the values of inclusivity and diversity that both Azerbaijan and Canada cherish.
