Israeli journalist and newly appointed Regional Director to Canada for the Jewish Agency for Israel, Yaron Dekal, captivated a crowd of 25 Israeli Canadian Winnipegers during a recent event.
Organized by The Jewish Agency for Israel, the World Zionist Organization, and Noya Production, the gathering provided a platform to explore the intriguing journey of Israelis who have chosen to leave their homeland for North America.
The highlight of the evening was a screening of an episode from Dekal’s captivating documentary series, “De Israelize.” The series delves into the lives of Israeli immigrants residing in physical America while nurturing a deep connection to their Israeli roots and preserving their distinct Israeli identity.
As the episode unfolded, attendees were engrossed in the personal stories and experiences shared by these individuals who, despite being physically distant from Israel, continue to carry their Israeliness in their hearts. The documentary shed light on the unique challenges, triumphs, and emotions experienced by Israeli immigrants living in North America.
Following the screening, an engaging question and answer session provided a platform for audience members to contribute their own personal experiences and perspectives on leaving Israel and embarking on their immigration journey to Canada. The exchange of stories fostered a sense of community and solidarity among the attendees, who found comfort and understanding in connecting with others who shared similar paths.
The event served as a reminder of the resilience, strength, and unwavering connection that Israeli immigrants maintain with their homeland. It provided a space for reflection, celebration, and the recognition of the diverse narratives that shape the Israeli Canadian community in Winnipeg.
As Israeli Canadians continue to contribute their unique perspectives, talents, and stories to their adopted homeland, events like these serve as a testament to the enduring bond that ties them to Israel and their shared Israeli heritage.
