The government’s dealings with the Jewish community to fight antisemitism on the home front: refugees and immigration (3)
The reader may be puzzled as to what refugees and immigrants have to do with Trudeau’s fake antisemitism?
Security of the person against hate crimes and incidents is a basic human right and the protection of individuals, is accordingly a fundamental obligation of the government.
I regard the Trudeau government’s refugee and immigration policies, practices and failures in both regards, to be in some respects a breach of his government’s fundamental obligation to the Jewish community of Canada as this will be demonstrated in the following Parts. The following is designed to provide the reader with some background on these two topics. Trudeau’s policy concerning the intake of refugees does not reflect the preferences of the majority of Canadians.
According to a survey conducted in 2019,inter-alia, a. over half (57%) of the respondents stated Canada ought not to accept more refugees, and b. 64% of the respondents consider that illegal immigration has become a very serious problem. Une majorité de Canadiens veulent moins de refugiés, selon un nouveau sondage, ICI Manitoba, Radio-Canada, July 2, 2019. And that is not all there is to it.
Canada’s asylum system and Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (“The Compact”)
If the national statistics concerning hate crimes are in bad shape, the statistics concerning the government’s handling of illegal migrants refugees and fake refugees are shapeless. Canadians have no idea what is going on save for some general figures being published from time to time.
On July 13, 2018, Canada signed the Compact.
When the Compact was signed, Trudeau sought to assuage those concerned about the full implications and potential impact on the Canadian society by assuring them that the Compact was not legally binding and its use by the signatories was discretionary and optional.
A few months later Chancellor Merkel of Germany and President Macron of France contradicted him and publicly affirmed and confirmed that the signatory countries’ compliance with the Compact was mandatory.
In August 2018, Ahmed Hussen, then Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship publicly admitted that Canada’s asylum system is in a state of crisis and unsustainable. His assignment then became to market both at home and abroad his ideas about “Canada leading the charge on the U.N global refugee plan set out in the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration as a caring country-Christine Douglass Williams, Canada plans to “lead the charge” on UN’s refugee plan, Jihad Watch, October 5,2018.
On November 26,2018, Salim Mansur, of the political science department of the University of Western Ontario published an article titled Canada’s Treacherous “Faustian Bargain” at the Gatestone Institute.
He wrote: “The Global Compact requires the media outlets of member-states to adhere to the objectives and refrain from any critical discussions of these objectives that would be deemed as not “ethical” and against UN norms or standards consistent with the ideology of globalism.”
“This helps to explain the Trudeau government’s generous handout to the Canadian media. In this light, the $600 million can be viewed as a form of secretive soft control and censorship, ensuring that the Canadian press abides by the requirements of the Global Compact.”
At all events the Compact did not solve or stop the entry of illegal refugees. Thus in 2022, some 39,000 illegals entered Canada. Christine Douglass-Williams, Jihad Watch, March 8, 2023.
On April 30, 2019, Sputnik International published the article titled Once Robust Migrant System Torn under Trudeau’s Liberal Party-Lawyer. Further, Remi Tremblay, the Editor of Quebec Magazine Le Harfang wrote, “ the government has proven that its priority is not the safety and security of Canadians, but the respect of jihadis’ rights”.
The Compact, its objects, objectives and negative impacts have been thoroughly analysed by Lloyd Robertson in, Talk about Immigration While You Still Can, C2C Journal September 9, 2019. I recommend it for a close reading. https://c2cjournal.ca/author/lloydw-robertson/
A noteworthy point, among many others, about the Compact is the comment of a Dutch member of the European Parliament speaking just before the UN vote who noted that “one ’basic element’ of the.. Compact is its extension of the definition of ‘hate speech”. He warned that it aims to criminalise migration speech.” Lloyd Robertson, supra.
Currently as a matter of fact there is little, if any, transparency on the age, ethnic, racial and religious identities and countries of origin of the refugee –status seekers. Nor does proper evidence of a proper assessment of the would-be refugees in terms of the risk they pose to the safety and security of Canadians.

Problems with deportations
The problems identified above and in the referenced sources are further aggravated by government’s inability to deport those who turn out to be rejected refugees claimants and those deemed inadmissible because of criminal background, potential threat to public health or safety or risk to national security, Thus,
a. in 2017, over 15,000 foreign nationals were on Canada’s deportation list while the Deportation Department lost track of 35,000 migrants who were set for deportation;
b. in November 2020, 33,823 foreign nationals of the 52,000 on enforceable removal orders, could not be located; persons were on the “wanted” inventory. Marie Woolf, Feds facing questions over whereabouts of 469 missing foreign criminals, The Globe and Mail, October 15, 2022
c. as of December 2021 the whereabouts of 29,719 people including 469 foreign criminals 30 of which are guilty of serious crimes including culpable homicide and other violent offences such as those convicted of multiple sexual offences. Marie Woolf, supra.
d. The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) declined to say how many offenders facing deportation for criminal activity during the pandemic it has lost track of. Marie Woolf, supra.
At the end of the day, as Christine Douglass- Williams pointed out there is no accountability and no assurances to Canadians from the Trudeau government about (a) assimilation plans, [which are incompatible with the government’ mantra of diversity, equity and inclusion] and (b) vetting procedures and (c) potential security and safety issues, Canada fast-tracking asylum claims from Muslim countries, February 4, 2019
And if Trudeau carries on with his current policies, programs and practices concerning refugee intake and immigration without learning the lessons that must be learned from the failed handling of antisemitism by Germany and France not to mention Belgium, Sweden and the U.K. as a result of their globalist refugee and immigration policies, Trudeau’s often repeated slogan that “there is no place for antisemitism in Canada” will end up as another piece of Trudeauesque cynical fiction. Gary Mason, It is not racist to question immigration policy, The Globe and Mail, January 6, 2023
As to Trudeau government’s economically grossly miscalculated immigration targets, suffice to say that Canada will keep up this level of immigration because it has failed to a) improve significantly its dismally low productivity record, the worse among countries of comparable economies; b) design and implement an industrial strategy responsive to the 22 century; c) remedy the lack of private sector investment in R&D and d) invest in university research.
And all the sound advice against the government’s policy is falling on deaf ears.
A detour
On May 16, inst. the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development (FAAE) passed the following motion of NDP’s Heather McPherson with the support of four Liberal MPs, the NDP and the Bloc Quebecois.
The motion, as amended, reads as follows:
That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), and in light of recent events in Israel, the West Bank and Gaza, the committee conduct a study on the actions Canada should take to foster peace, protect civilians, combat terrorism and uphold respect for human rights and international law in the region; that the study consist of at least four meetings; that relevant ministers be invited to appear and that the committee invite witnesses from Canadian civil society, international humanitarian organizations, as well as Israeli and Palestinian human rights and peacebuilding organizations; that the committee reports its findings to the House, and that pursuant to Standing Order 109 the government table a comprehensive response to the report.
Considering the facts that Heather McPherson is a vocal critic of the Israeli government and a staunch supporter of the Palestinians and the NDP is decidedly a party that labours against Israel, the outcome of the study is a bygone conclusion.
It is also a waste of the taxpayers’ hard earned money, because the action that Canada should take is pretty straightforward; namely,
a. to condemn the P.A., the Palestinian Jihad and Hamas to stop their unprovoked terrorist activities against Israel and the inhabitants of Israel;
b. to condemn the P.A. for financing terrorism and in effect for being a terrorist organisation;
c. to demand that the P.A. and the UNRWA to stop using school books designed to brainwash students and incite them to hate Israel and Jews and engage in terrorist activities.
Would the Liberal government act on any of the foregoing points? Based on Trudeau’s and his Minister of Global Affairs’ past performance, and the government’s domestic identity politics, the likelihood of Canada adopting such a position is practically nil.
