Members of the Israeli Canadian Council (ICC) in Winnipeg stood up on May 13 against Antisemitic tropes and the promotion of hate towards Israel and its people. This comes after a Nakba 75 Commemoration event held in Memorial Park across from the Manitoba Legislative Building where chants calling Israel a terror and apartheid state were heard, as well as speeches claiming Israel’s ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.
The ICC members of all ages in attendance at the event strongly condemned the use of Antisemitic tropes and hate speech towards Israel and its people. They reminded everyone that the event was not about commemorating the Palestinian’s self-made catastrophe (Nakba) but all about hate, lies, and fabrications about the creation of Israel and its Jewish people.
“The creation of Israel was a miracle, and it serves as an example of how indigenous communities can return to and reclaim their indigenous homeland,” said ICC president Ron East. “The Nakba was not a catastrophe caused by Israel, but rather a result of the Arab world’s refusal to accept the UN Partition Plan and the establishment of a Jewish state in the region.“
Danny Kaufman, an ICC member who attended the event, added, “The use of Antisemitic tropes and hate speech towards Israel and its people is unacceptable. It is important that we stand up against this hate and continue to educate the public about the true history of Israel’s creation and the ongoing conflict in the region.“
The ICC members’ stance on the issue comes just after all parties of the Manitoba legislative recently adopted the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of Antisemitism. The IHRA definition identifies various forms of Antisemitism, including calling for the destruction of Israel, using double standards to judge Israel, and denying the Jewish people’s right to self-determination.
The adoption of the IHRA definition of Antisemitism is a significant step towards identifying and combating Antisemitic hate speech and behavior. It provides a clear definition of what Antisemitism is, making it easier to recognize and address.

Despite the adoption of the IHRA definition, Antisemitic tropes and hate speech continue to be heard at events like the Nakba 75 Commemoration. The ICC strongly condemns this behavior and calls on all Manitobans to stand against hate and Antisemitism in all its forms.
The ICC is dedicated to promoting a positive image of Israel and combating Antisemitism. They believe in the importance of education and dialogue in creating understanding and cooperation between different communities. They encourage everyone to learn about the true history of Israel’s creation and the ongoing conflict in the region.
The ICC strongly believes in the right of Israel and its people to exist and defend themselves. They stand with their members and allies who are fighting against Antisemitism and hate, and they will continue to do so in the face of such events.

We revealed the incursion of anti-Israel progressive elements such as IfNotNow into our communities. We have exposed the distorted hateful agenda of the “progressive” left political radicals who brought Linda Sarsour to our cities, and we were first to report on many disturbing incidents of Nazi-based hate towards Jews across Canada.
