The recent Ottawa Conference declaration by the Palestinian Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement has been met with controversy due to its endorsement of violent armed Palestinian resistance and its use of antisemitic language.

The conference, which was held in Ottawa, Canada, brought together various organizations, including women’s organizations, labor organizations, academic activists, and legal activists. It aimed to discuss the Palestinian cause and the 75th anniversary of the founding of the State of Israel.

The conference’s political declaration, entitled “Palestine: Envisioning Liberation, Confronting Colonialism,” was made under the slogan and framework of “With the resistance until the liberation of Palestine, from the river to the sea.” The declaration reaffirmed the Palestinian Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement’s absolute and unconditional loyalty to the Palestinian Arab people and their just cause, rights, and national goals.

The declaration endorsed the use of violent armed Palestinian resistance, including the support of resistance forces in occupied Palestine with all of their battalions, brigades, committees, and heroic armed forces. This is a dangerous and irresponsible stance that ignores the negative effects of violence and terrorism. Such actions only serve to perpetuate the cycle of violence, deepen the divide between Israelis and Palestinians, and undermine the possibility of peaceful coexistence and a two-state solution.

Furthermore, the declaration used antisemitic language by referring to the “dismantling of the racist Zionist settler entity, ‘Israel.'” This language is deeply offensive and ignores the reality of Israel as a sovereign state that has the right to exist in peace and security, just like any other country in the world. It is also worth noting that Israel is a diverse country, with a significant Arab and Muslim population, who enjoy equal rights and freedoms under the law.

The endorsement of violent armed resistance and the use of antisemitic language are not only counterproductive but also harmful to the Palestinian cause. Such actions only serve to push away potential allies and supporters and deepen the rift between Israelis and Palestinians. The use of violence also undermines the credibility of the Palestinian leadership and makes it harder for them to negotiate a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

It is important for the Palestinian Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement to understand that any solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict requires a peaceful approach that prioritizes dialogue, negotiation, and compromise. Violence and terrorism can only lead to more suffering and destruction for both sides. It is not enough to merely reject the use of violence and terrorism; the movement must actively work towards promoting peaceful and non-violent means of achieving their goals.

Furthermore, the use of antisemitic language by the movement is not only morally reprehensible but also counterproductive to their cause. Antisemitism has no place in any political movement or discourse and only serves to further divide and inflame tensions between different groups. It is important for the Palestinian Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement to acknowledge and condemn any instances of antisemitism within their ranks and to work towards fostering a culture of tolerance and respect towards all groups.

It is also crucial for the Palestinian Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement to recognize that any successful resolution to the conflict must address the legitimate security concerns of both Israelis and Palestinians. This means finding a solution that ensures Israel’s security while also guaranteeing Palestinian rights and freedoms.

The international community also has a responsibility to condemn the endorsement of violent armed resistance and the use of antisemitic language. We cannot afford to turn a blind eye to such dangerous rhetoric and actions, which only serve to further destabilize the region and undermine efforts towards peace.

The Ottawa Conference declaration by the Palestinian Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement is a step in the wrong direction. The use of violence and antisemitic language by the Palestinian Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement is not only morally wrong but also counterproductive to their cause. The endorsement of violent armed resistance only serves to perpetuate the cycle of violence and deepen the divide between Israelis and Palestinians.

It is time for the Palestinian leadership to reject violence and terrorism and work towards building bridges with Israelis and the international community, in the pursuit of a just and peaceful resolution to the conflict.
