The Jewish community in Winnipeg has come together to show their support for the Jewish National Fund (JNF) Negev Gala and to condemn the use of Antisemitic language by Independent Jewish Voices (IJV) to promote their planned protest. In response to IJV’s call for a boycott of the event, over 900 tickets have been sold to support the annual fundraising event which this year will support the Hadar School for Special Needs near Sderot in the Negev.
The Israeli Canadian Council (ICC) strongly condemns IJV’s planned protest outside the JNF Negev Gala and their use of Antisemitic language to drum up support for their actions. IJV’s claim that the gala supports Israeli apartheid and that Canadian tax dollars fund or support this supposed apartheid is baseless and dangerous. These accusations are nothing more than Antisemitic rhetoric that has no place in any discourse, let alone in Canadian society.
IJV has a history of taking actions critical of Israel, including advocating for the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which seeks to isolate Israel economically and politically. The group has been accused of promoting antisemitic conspiracy theories and supporting individuals and groups with a history of antisemitic views.
These actions have caused considerable controversy and have led to calls for Independent Jewish Voices to be ostracized from the wider Jewish community.
The JNF Negev Gala serves as a crucial annual fundraiser for Winnipeg’s Jewish community, with this year’s proceeds going towards supporting the Hadar School, which provides education and services to children with disabilities irrespective of their background or ethnicity, making it a worthy cause for support. The actions of IJV in trying to disrupt this event are highly inappropriate and unproductive.
The Israeli Canadian Council stands in solidarity with the JNF and the Hadar School, as well as the entire Jewish community in condemning IJV’s planned protest and the use of Antisemitic language to promote their cause. The ICC calls on all Canadians to reject the divisive and harmful actions of IJV and to stand in support of the JNF Negev Gala and the Hadar School.

Accusing Israel of practicing apartheid is a deliberate misrepresentation of the reality on the ground. Israel is a democratic state that guarantees equal rights and protections under the law for all its citizens, regardless of their religion, ethnicity, or background. Furthermore, Canada has never funded or supported any form of apartheid, let alone in Israel.
The ICC believes that IJV’s use of Antisemitic language and their attempt to disrupt a charity event only promotes hate and division. The Council urges Canadians to engage in constructive dialogue and seek common ground, rather than resorting to hateful and baseless accusations.
The Jewish community’s overwhelming response to IJV’s call for a boycott of the gala is a testament to their resilience in the face of hateful rhetoric and their dedication to supporting Israel and its people. The ICC praises the community’s response, stating that it demonstrates the Jewish community’s unwavering commitment to supporting Israel and its institutions, especially those that serve to help those in need.
The Israeli Canadian Council calls on all Canadians to join them in condemning Antisemitism and working towards a world where all individuals are respected and valued regardless of their background.

We revealed the incursion of anti-Israel progressive elements such as IfNotNow into our communities. We have exposed the distorted hateful agenda of the “progressive” left political radicals who brought Linda Sarsour to our cities, and we were first to report on many disturbing incidents of Nazi-based hate towards Jews across Canada.
