April 3, 2023 was a remarkable day for Azerbaijanis living in Canada as the Chairman of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora of Azerbaijan, Fuad Muradov, officially opened the House of Azerbaijan in Toronto. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was followed by the National Anthem of Azerbaijan and a minute of silence to commemorate the martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the 44 days Patriotic war in 2020, which resulted in the liberation of the occupied territories and the restoration of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
Representatives from the State Committee, Chargé d’affaires of Azerbaijan in Canada, the Consul General of Turkey in Toronto, members of Indian, Jewish, and Uzbekistani communities, members of the Azerbaijani diaspora, as well as representatives of the Canadian government and parliament attended the event.
The moderator of the opening ceremony, former minister and MP Tony Ruprecht, highlighted the significance of the House of Azerbaijan in preserving and promoting national culture and traditions, particularly among the younger generation. Mr. Muradov welcomed and congratulated the participants on the opening of the House of Azerbaijan, indicating Azerbaijan’s growing attention towards its compatriots living abroad.
Several speakers, including the Speaker of the Canada-Azerbaijani Interparliamentary Friendship Group, MP Ali Ahsasi, and Michael Tibollo, member of the provincial government of Ontario, congratulated the Azerbaijani community on the opening of the House of Azerbaijan.
The Head of “The Azerbaijani Art and Culture Center Vatan” and the House of Azerbaijan, Lalin Hasanova, briefed the participants about the Center’s activities since its establishment in 2015. The House of Azerbaijan is the home for all of us, and each of us should support this house,” she said.
The concluding part of the event featured performances by People’s artist of Azerbaijan, winner of the President’s scholarship Hasan Enami, violinist Jeyhun Ismayilov, and Tabriz Azerbaijani Music and Dance Ensemble. The event ended with a tea party where specific Azerbaijani sweets were served.

The House of Azerbaijan is covered in Azerbaijani carpets and rugs, showcasing the oldest tradition of carpet weaving that is alive and thriving. Cultural artifacts representing leather and wood processing, weaving, pottery, blacksmithing, and men’s and women’s national costumes adorn the cozy rooms of the House.
The House of Azerbaijan has already started its activities, hosting its first lecture on the history of Azerbaijan on April 22, followed by a karaoke evening for the youth and an art exhibition by Naila Hashimzada. The House will continue to host various events, including lessons on Azerbaijani cuisine, dance lessons, watching Azerbaijani movies, theatrical performances, ballets, and celebrating holidays and special occasions.
The opening of the House of Azerbaijan has been long-awaited and is a timely action that consolidates the community, deepens understanding, and strengthens friendship between Canada and Azerbaijan and their peoples. The House of Azerbaijan not only preserves the Azerbaijani culture but also promotes and spreads it to a wider Canadian audience.

We revealed the incursion of anti-Israel progressive elements such as IfNotNow into our communities. We have exposed the distorted hateful agenda of the “progressive” left political radicals who brought Linda Sarsour to our cities, and we were first to report on many disturbing incidents of Nazi-based hate towards Jews across Canada.
