This is a story about a people that had no state of its own for 2000 years and now has a state. When this people had no state, no armed force to protect itself, it was vulnerable, victim of many efforts to eradicate them, joining many others that have disappeared.
Nevertheless, motivated by the strength of a religious ethos and an internal culture, in spite of all the violence and the incentives toward assimilation into surrounding cultures, they persisted in sufficient number to mount an effort toward regaining national sovereignty.
Despite wars and international discrimination they created a viable and successful state harboring almost half their world numbers.
That state is Israel.
Israel continues to face efforts to bring about its demise. Many of those efforts are related to those that the nation faced during its centuries of exile. It faces fighting a war when no war has been declared. It also faces a war which has not been declared by a state but is being waged by non-state actors armed and financed by states that openly declare their hostile intentions. Iran and Syria are two but not the only ones.
In our era we live in a world dominated by giant powers. This has always been the case as we have the witness of history. Once dominated by Britain and other European countries, now the U.S., Russia, China, India, are all pursuing their self-interested policies. Saudi Arabia, a leader among the Islamic nations, dominates the energy-producing states, with their particular point of view. Any successful nation must find the way to dance among the giants while pursuing its people’s objectives.
Israel has been no different. Fortunate in its support from the U.S., it must still be wary of disturbing its peaceful relations with Russia, and the Islamic block. Its external relations with the E.U. and some Islamic nations remain fragile. Since the Islamic revolution in Iran, that government has been calling for the destruction of Israel and seeking allies to realize this objective.
Altering its regime over time from the collectivist welfare state which served it well during its consolidation years, Israel shifted to a more open economic model. Without inherent physical natural resources, the government of Israel focused attention on research and development.
Over time, Israel has become one of the world’s primary nations in the fields of agriculture, medicine, science, and military technology. It has converted its challenges into advantages.
Advancement in these fields has opened doors for Israel in many nations around the world. Many firms originating in Israel are on the U.S. NASDAQ. Israel’s technology in water conservation and defense is being used around the world. Latterly, using its technology, Israel has become an exporter of energy to its Arab neighbors and Europe. In spite of bringing in millions of dispossessed and homeless refugees of all ages, per capita income in Israel is among the highest of all countries in the world.
In spite of all this, regardless of what the news reports say, Israel is in a constant condition of undeclared war.

Firstly, the Arab bloc, from the day after Israel’s defeat of the attack on it by seven Arab countries, has maintained that there could be no peace with Israel until there was peace with the Palestinians. The conditions demanded for that would ensure the demise of Israel and thus were unacceptable. Recently we have seen a softening of this as peace treaties were concluded with Jordan and Egypt. Latterly some Islamic countries have begun to partake of the many benefits of a relationship with Israel. Some Arab governments maintain hostile relations.
Secondly, many countries exhibit negative attitudes toward Israel, as evidenced by the U.N. denunciations supported by a majority of countries that are a regular feature of that Organization. This may be a consequence of the anti-Jewish attitudes historically evident and Arab bloc campaigning. Some international support for the BDS movement aimed at harming Israel economically. Israel faces continuous attack from these directions and must devote resources to counter them.
Internally, Israel faces continuous low-level hostilities from some Arab-Israelis, and from Arabs living under Palestinian Authority jurisdiction. The P.A. maintains a program of anti-Israel incitement, and a recent poll even of Arab-Israelis reported that 72% support terrorist attacks on Jewish Israelis.
There are often reports of violence and losses of human life on both sides. The Israeli military and police are continually on guard to prevent such attacks.
Particularly worrisome are the activities of Iran and its proxies, Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, and Iranian forces in Syria. There are regular efforts to cause harm to Israelis by digging tunnels across borders for terrorists and firing missiles indiscriminately. And there is the overwhelming concern regarding the Iranian theocracy’s efforts to arm Iran with a nuclear option. The Mullahs of Iran have promised to nuke Israel out of existence and Israel has promised to destroy Iran’s capacity to accomplish this before it can be realized.
All these are sources of the undeclared war that Israel fights every day while its citizens maintain the day to day business of going on with as normal a life as possible. Israel is celebrating the 75th year of its existence as a state in May of 2023.

We revealed the incursion of anti-Israel progressive elements such as IfNotNow into our communities. We have exposed the distorted hateful agenda of the “progressive” left political radicals who brought Linda Sarsour to our cities, and we were first to report on many disturbing incidents of Nazi-based hate towards Jews across Canada.
