Many are hailing Israel’s admission as historic, while critics say that Washington’s strict requirements could compromise Israeli security.
“For me and my fellow Jewish students, Israel-hating rhetoric and Jewish-hating rhetoric feels the same because they are the same: Both are anti-Semitism,” said Joey Karlan, Club Z alumnus.

The MP who sits on the House security and intelligence committee
In August 2022, the MP posed for a picture, while standing next to a poster that read: “Palestinian Holocaust made by Zionists”. On August 17, the Abraham Global Peace Initiative (“AGPI”) sent a letter to Trudeau demanding an apology and clarifications of this member. https://agpiworld.com/action-campaigns. The letter was met with silence.
Chandra Arya
On June 9, 2021, Arya addressed the House of Commons about the terrorist attack in London, ON which resulted in the death of all but one member of a family that immigrated to Canada from Pakistan. He advocated a ‘Team Canada’ approach including a strong educational component. He said: “We need all hands on deck to combat Islamophobia, anti-Semitism and anti-Asian crimes. Failure to act now leaves the door open for vicious hate to find a permanent home in Canada.”
On May 12, 2022, Arya in response to a statement made by a member of the House who had made a statement about human rights in China said:
Madam Speaker:… Why do we not focus on the killing of the Palestinian American Al Jazeera reporter, Shireen Abu Akleh, by the Israeli military even though she was wearing a press vest that clearly marked her as press? What about the human rights violations in Israel and Palestine as highlighted by the Human Rights Watch report? What about the apartheid that is practiced by Israel on Palestinians according to an Amnesty International report or what former Israeli attorney general Michael Ben Yair says, which is that the country is following the apartheid system?…Why not include the Middle-East issues too?
On the following day, May 13, Arya addressed by megaphone a group of students who walked out of their classes and left their school without permission to demonstrate against Israel. The demonstration lamented the establishment of Israel and portrayed Jewish self-determination as a disaster while bemoaning Israel’s resilience in the face of adversity following the 1948 United Nations recognition of its independence.
Obviously, Arya was not concerned with the ethical and safety issues raised by the participation of an MP in a divisive mass truancy event calling for the obliteration of Israel. Instead, he praised both the students in attendance and the organisers who encouraged them-some as young as 13, from several schools across Ottawa to skip classes for such demonstrations, as part as a new generation of leaders. He admitted that several of the organisers are past and current staff of his parliamentary office.
In behaving as he did, Arya, among other things,
a. breached his party’s and government’s definition of antisemitism, and
b. demonstrated his:
i. incompetence to analyze correctly the fatally flawed reports on which he relied;
ii. utter ignorance of the legal and factual history of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict as well as his matching ignorance of the Israeli society and its laws which grant equal rights and opportunities to all its members regardless of their ethnicity or religion.
“Chandra Arya seems to spend much of his working hours showing up at anti-Israel events,” said Michael Mostyn, B’nai Brith’s Chief Executive Officer. “Our 2021 Audit of Antisemitic Incidents registered a record 75 incidents of violence targeting Canadian Jews, much of it fuelled by the vile sort of anti-Zionism we saw at this demonstration. Arya is a member of the majority caucus and should know better than to see children used to undermine Canada’s support of Israel and understand this will only stroke the flames of division between students of different backgrounds.”

”B’nai Brith alerted the Ottawa Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) to Arya’s involvement in the May 13 rally. B’nai Brith has since learned the OCDSB intends to impose disciplinary measures on students who walked out and is investigating infiltration of its schools by groups using social media to disrupt classes. The narrative concerning the incidents incorporates the narrative of B’nai Brith Advocacy” MP’s Anti-Israel Activities Raises B’nai Brith Concerns, May 20, 2022
The OCDSB issued a statement that included the following: “The OCDSB reminds students engaged in activism that the right to freedom of expression comes with the obligation to respect other people’s opinions that are different from their own. Typically, when students organize walk-outs or other actions, they move off school property. If a student demonstration or walk-out occurs, classes will continue to operate. As always our teachers strive to create spaces in classrooms where all students feel safe. Students advocating for a cause at school or in a place that may impact on the school climate are subject to our policies and School District Code of Conduct.”
The OCDSB went on to state that students who feel uncomfortable not walking out of class speak “to a trusted adult in the school so that we can work with them to ensure their needs are addressed. This includes providing assurances of safety within the building, identifying a location for them to access well-being supports, and connection with family, as requested.”
Regrettably, this was not the only problem of the kind the OCDSB had to address on the issue of antisemitism, cf. School Boards, infra.
To the best of my knowledge, Trudeau did not publicly address nor sanction Arya’s behaviour unbecoming a MP nor did he specifically distance himself from his anti-Zionist utterances against Israel.
Surprise, surprise! On the occasion of the beginning of the Jewish Heritage Month, Arya praised the Jewish community and its contributions to Canada and went on to praise strongly the so-called “Independent Jewish Voices” whose work brings solace to anti-Zionists and antisemites.
The NDP and Liberal MPs
On April 19, 2022,the Deputy Leader of the NDP mislead his 29,000 Facebook followers about an alleged evil perpetrated in Jerusalem on April 15 by Jews against Palestinians.
His venomous posting was riddled with falsehoods. For the full details of Boulerice’s venom see: Linda Slobodian – Slobodian: So Boulerice, who is the racist? Western Standard, April 22, 2022
The NDP’s utterances were joined by a chorus of Liberal MPs who added their own invectives devoid of substantiating evidence – comprised of Iqra Khalid, Jenna Suds, and Parliamentary Secretary, for Women, Gender Equality and Youth, Adam van Koeverden, Arielle Kayabaga, Salma Zahid, Jennifer O’Connell. Transport Minister Omar Alghambra pretended to hint Israel was not solely responsible. Marty Gold, Liberal MPs, NDP Deputy Leader Amplify Hamas Blood Libel, TheJ.ca, April 21, 2022
