The Jewish community of West Los Angeles was relieved and thankful after an arrest of the suspect in a pair of shootings that targeted Orthodox Jews. Jaime Tran “allegedly located the Jewish neighborhood by searching a popular business review app for a kosher market in the Pico-Robertson district” according to brentwoodnewsla.com.
An FBI affidavit claimed “After locating the market, Tran allegedly drove to the area, where the first shooting occurred on Wednesday (Feb. 22) at approximately 9:45 a.m., resulting in a gunshot wound to one victim’s lower back. The second shooting took place on Thursday at approximately 8 a.m., with another victim sustaining a gunshot wound to his upper arm.”
LAPD Detectives recovered several items of evidence, including a rifle and a handgun.
“There’s no way this is a coincidence,” local resident Shiva Mehrannia told ABC7 News. “In a very Jewish neighborhood, both men leaving synagogues, possibly with a kippah on their head. I mean, you do the math. I think it’s pretty clear.”
Federal prosecutors last week charged Tran, 28, with two counts of committing hate crimes. The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles said in a statement he “has a history of animus towards the Jewish community.” Over 74% of religiously motivated hate crimes targeted Jews, as LA’s 2022 hate crimes report showed.
Last week police across the US urging Jewish communities to be extra vigilant following a neo-Nazi group declaring a “National Day of Hate”” for Saturday. But the headlines blaring that white supremacists were on the march turned out to be Fake News.
“Despite concerns over increased antisemitic activity, 2/25 has so far been a pretty typical Saturday in America,” tweeted the Anti-Defamation League, “w/ white supremacist protests in (Ohio) & Georgia, antisemitic propaganda in TX, CA, FL & AZ — & white supremacists monetizing their hate-filled online livestreams. Increased law enforcement presence as well as heightened community awareness helped to ensure this was a #ShabbatOfPeaceNotHate.”
But the ADL was criticized for basically, instigating the panic and then doing the same thing as the anti-Semites – using the concept to panhandle for more money.
“ADL-alleged “National Day of Hate” fails to materialize,” proclaimed Knightsbridge Research.
“Over the last month, the ADL has heavily promoted the idea that a “National Day of Hate” was planned by white supremacist and antisemitic groups for 25 February 2023. The ADL claims it was originated by a neo-Nazi group in Iowa and was “endorsed and shared online by various extremist groups”. Based partially on the ADL’s assessment, several police departments across the nation sent out Situational Awareness Alerts. During our investigation and ongoing monitoring of extremist groups, Knightsbridge found no evidence that any “National Day of Hate” was planned outside of a few small groups with very little influence nationally.”
Knightsbridge, which provides private analysis for subscriber, concluded: “Over the weekend, the alleged “National Day of Hate” failed to materialize. Typical extremist activity, such as small protests, online activity, graffiti, and the sporadic placement of flyers took place in various locations. None of these actions were particularly notable or of a greater scale than most weekends.”

It seems that Social Work in Ontario and elsewhere has a dirty secret: how some Jews are treated in programs. A petition is demanding that when this field teaches other world hate, the curriculum teach about antisemitism. The proponents issued a statement:
“Canadian Antisemitism Education Foundation is collaborating with StandWithUs, Hasbara Fellowships, Doctors Against Racism and Antisemitism and Alpha Omega (Jewish dental association), working with a working group of social workers, to investigate antisemitism as a topic that has, historically, been omitted from the social work curriculum, according to the social work literature. We hope to better explore the degree to which antisemitism is included in the social work curriculum in Canada.”
The Journal of Religion and Spirituality in Social Work published a study entitled “Addressing Anti-Semitism in Social Work Education”. Dr. Carole Cox wrote that, “Social work… cannot ignore anti-semitism and its impact on individuals and societies. However, the subject is basically ignored in the curriculum.”
According to the release, “antisemitism was formally put on the agenda of the newly formed Ontario College of Social Work and Social Service Workers DEI taskforce only after 130 College members petitioned about the College’s silence relative to this ancient hatred.”
