Recently, efforts by France and Armenia to label the protests along the Lachin Corridor a “humanitarian disaster” at the UN Security Council have been thwarted. This came after a struggle over the UN Security Council statement ensued for 10 days.
During the battle that ensued, Azerbaijan succeeded to remove the phrase “Nagorno-Karabakh” from the statement, to indicate that humanitarian assistance can only be based on respect for Azerbaijan’s sovereign territory and to include other statements supporting Azerbaijan’s national sovereignty. In the end, the French were forced to abandon the pro-Armenian statement.
However, despite Azerbaijan’s victory at the UN Security Council, pro-Armenian activists continue to do everything to paint the protests along the Lachin Corridor to be a humanitarian disaster.
As the resolution was being debated, Armenian activists in France managed to secure a statement by the French government in support of Armenia. According to a recent press release put out by the Elysee Palace, “the President of the French Republic will take this opportunity to highlight the role of Armenian organizations in France, reiterate his unwavering commitment to Armenia’s security and stability, and reaffirm France’s commitment to the Armenian people.”
Within recent weeks, ANCA has been rallying people in the United States behind the belief that what is happening along the Lachin Corridor is a humanitarian disaster and a blockade, even though the reality paints an entirely different picture, one of a people protesting against environmental terrorism. (Azerbaijan does not control the area, which is controlled by Russian peacekeepers.)
Never mind that the International Red Cross is given unimpeded access to the civilian Armenian population and that plenty of aid gets through.
A town hall meeting in California together with Congresswoman Barbara Lee and put out a statement to this effect. Hundreds of activists came together on Capitol Hill, arguing that all assistance to Azerbaijan should end as long as the Lachin Corridor protests continue. Almost every week, they are engaged in activities rallying the American public against Azerbaijan. Unfortunately, some members of the Congress have even bought into their propaganda and issued statements of their own.
More problematically, the Illinois Holocaust Museum decided to join ANCA’s propaganda campaign. According to a statement, “For almost two months, the Azerbaijani government has blockaded this route, cutting off the electricity and stopping nearly all movement of people and goods either into or out of Artsakh. Children have been separated from their parents, food is being rationed, and medicine and other essentials are in short supply.”
They added: “Armenians are now referring to this moment as a “second Genocide”, echoing the atrocities against them by the Ottoman Empire during the First World War. The Illinois Holocaust Museum urges the Biden administration and international leaders to mobilize immediate humanitarian assistance to the Armenians blockaded in Artsakh, as well as lend the full weight of their offices to lift Azerbaijan’s blockade of the Lachin Corridor.”

Sadly, an institute dedicated to educating the public about the Holocaust did not utter a single word about the Khojaly Genocide, where 613 people were massacred for the crime of being Azerbaijan.
An institute that is supposed to shout NEVER AGAIN was completely silent about the fact that Armenia held countless Azerbaijanis prisoner during the Khojaly Genocide, where they tortured, raped and even sold the organs of Azerbaijani victims to Syria and Libya. Nor did they mention how one fifth of Azerbaijan was ethnically cleansed of Azerbaijanis for thirty years, forcing one million people to become refugees as Karabakh was illegally occupied in violation of four UN Security Council Resolutions.
Nor did they note how since the area was liberated, the Armenians have been engaging in wanton environmental terrorism, which led to protests that got the area blocked off to begin with.
They did not condemn the Russian peacekeepers and Armenians for stealing Azerbaijan’s natural resources, nor the Armenians for uprooting trees, murdering cattle, planting landmines, poisoning the water in rivers and engaging in other acts of ecological terrorism.
In fact, by calling the area Artsakh or Nagorno-Karabakh, they are giving into colonial discourse, as the area was called Karabakh from time immemorial. Nagorno is a Russian name and Artsakh is the invention of Armenia, who arrived in the area to assist Russian imperial interests.
The idea that there is a blockade or humanitarian disaster, much less a genocide, is a figment of the Armenian imagination. And when the truth comes out, those who bought into such propaganda will be utterly disgraced in respectable circles.
