Antisemitic allegations, actions and undercurrents in the House of Commons and beyond (4) – Melanie Joly, Minister of Global Affairs

According to The International Federation of Journalists, between 1990 and 2020, 2658 journalists, including 12 from Al-Jazeera- the Qatari based news network, were killed while reporting from war zones.

During the year 2022, 115 journalists were killed in 29 countries.

During these years, to the best of my knowledge, I know of only one case, involving the death of the Al-Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu-Akleh, where the Canadian government made a big fuss about it. I think that is because Israel could be blamed for it. As someone put it “No Jews, no news”.

On the matter of the death of the reporter, the thorough investigation conducted by the Israeli authorities publicly concluded that “probably” the bullet that killed her was one which originated from an IDF soldier’s weapon and that the death was accidental.

The investigation report and related materials were then submitted to the U.S State Department for its review and the Department concurred with the conclusions of the investigation.

During the month of May 2021, the Minister of Global Affairs, Melanie Joly raised the matter of the death and burial of the American-Palestinian Christian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh employed by Al-Jazeera by condemning the Israeli police for its brutal, revolting handling of the coffin, the pallbearers and the crowd surrounding and supporting them.

As to the identity of the person who shot Abu Akleh, as to be expected, the P.A immediately blamed the IDF; refused to form a joint task force to investigate the matter; refused to turn over to the IDF the bullet(s) that caused her death knowing full well that it would be impossible to determine the identity of the person(s) who caused the death of the journalist without subjecting the bullet(s) to a rigorous analysis. It also informed the world that it would take the matter to the ICC.

The Minister did not have a word of criticism of the belligerent behaviour of the PA on this important issue.

Israeli authorities proceeded forthwith with a scientific analysis of the available data and concluded that the deceased was most likely shot by mistake by a soldier.

Israel then submitted the investigation report to the U.S State Department which inturn found no fault with it and its conclusion. The Department also stated that there was no evidence that the Israelis intentionally killed Abu Akleh.

Subsequently, the President Biden administration capriciously decided to ignore the conclusions of the State Department and to order the FBI to launch yet another investigation. Caroline Glick, The Biden Administration weaponizes the FBI against Israel, JNS org. November 16, 2022

In the light of the rapidly growing serious accusations of political corruption of the FBI, the outcome of its investigation remains highly questionable.

Minister Joly had nothing positive to say about the exemplary manner in which Israel conducted the investigation.

Subsequently, Al-Jazeera, the employer of the deceased, submitted to the International Criminal Court (ICC), what it pretended to be detailed evidence that allegedly proved that the IDF deliberately shot dead its reporter.

By December 2022, a new vimeo documentary by French filmmaker Pierre Remove titled “Lies and Tears” demonstrated that the allegation that IDF deliberately killed the reporter because of her pro-Palestinian coverage is simply not true. Robert Spencer,

New Documentary shows that Palestinian Authority is responsible for the death of journalist, Shireen Abu Akleh, Jihad Watch, December 5, 2022.The vimeo is 27.24 minutes long.

Further, it turns out that the key visual witness on whose evidence Al-Jazeera relies is a terrorist, member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. Jean- Patrick Grumberg, Le”temoin” clé d’Al Jazeera qui aurait vu qui a tué sa journaliste est en fait un terroriste du Jihad islamique, Israel 24/7, December 12, 2022

Yet, the Minister did not bother to criticise the PA and Al Jazeera for their dishonest accusations of the IDF.

Instead, the Minister focused exclusively on the events surrounding the burial of the deceased and hastened to severely criticise the Israeli police for the manner in which it “appeared” in the news clips to handle the events without waiting to be in possession of the full facts concerning the event.

Here is the Minister of Global Affairs publicly condemning in the strongest terms the Israeli police being/acting in this blameworthy manner rather than first waiting for further factual updates before addressing the matter in her venomous way. Had the Minister waited to speak until all the pertinent facts had been ascertained, she would have realised that the first urgent matter at hand would be to hasten to express her sympathies to the Christian parents of the deceased who must have gone through hell, as they watched the riotous crowd hijack their daughter’s coffin.

Joly would have further learned the following critical facts about the pallbearer; namely they were

a. not those intended by the parents;

b. convicted terrorists;

c. seeking to highjack the coffin in order to prevent the burial of the deceased-in a Christian cemetery, contrary to the explicit arrangements made by her parents with the Israeli authorities;

d. using the coffin as a weapon with which to strike police officers who were tasked to carry out her parents’ arrangements for the burial, and finally

e. singing “How Sweet it is to kill Jews”. Baruch Yedid and Aryeh Savir, Revealed: Pallbearers at funeral of Al-Jazeera reporter were convicted terrorists,TPS, May 17,2022; Hugh Fitzgerald, Riots at the Funeral Cortege of Journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, the Algemeiner, May 20, 2022; Nan Jacques Zilberdik, Palestinians at Al Jazeera Funeral: ‘How Sweet It is to Kill Jews, the Algemeiner, May 20,2022

At all events, she had nothing to say or chose to say nothing, let alone to condemn, the despicable behaviour of the terrorist pallbearers and their riotous confederates that caused the Israeli police to intervene.

Considering the serious failures of the Toronto and Winnipeg police departments to handle the antisemitic demonstrations during the Gaza war, Joly is hardly in a position to criticise the failures of the Israeli police to handle the potentially far more dangerous crowds.

The least she could have done was to temper her words, acknowledge that at the end of it all, the police were able to carry out the wishes of the parents who, as a matter of fact, wanted their daughter moved peacefully in a hearse to their Christian cemetery and to conduct the burial in accordance with Christian rites; David Lange, Muslim Israel-Haters: Do Not Pray for Journalist Shireen Abu Akleh Because She Was Christian, Israellycool May 20,2022; Isamar Marcus, Palestinian mob tried to highjack Shireen Abu Akleh’s funeral so it would not be “as if a Christian died”, Palestinian Media Watch, May 31,2022.

The Israeli authorities lost no time to launch an internal investigation into their conduct to determine whether the officers did their job faithfully for the safety of the public when the sensitive event was the violently disturbed by rioters.

At the end of the day, Minister Joly’s ignorant, irresponsible, and grossly prejudicial statements feed antisemitism and flogs antisemitic violence against the members of the Jewish community and their institutions.

Clearly, Joly does not have much time for Israel. Is she yet another example of the nowadays’ fashionable anti-Zionist who asserts that she is not an antisemite?
