When I saw that once-again Green Party leader Elizabeth May had, while among questionable company, made yet another insulting remark on video towards Israel and Zionists, publisher Ron East and I agreed, there’s a good subject for our next top story. But within 24 hours, her antics were little more than a footnote for the national press as a flood of incidents proved antisemitism has been normalized in Ottawa among the ruling class.
Canada has now seen evidence that our leaders and lobbyists in Ottawa are surrounded by antisemites, socialize with them at official functions, and could care less — until they’re caught.
As we went to press, the “Canada – Palestine Parliamentary Friendship Group” had so far scored, at the very least, a trifecta of outright vile Jew-haters among the participants at their official soiree last week.
Parliamentary friendship group chair and Liberal MP Salma Zahid, well acquainted with Khataba, issued a statement saying invitations for the event were sent around the local Palestinian community and “we are not able to research the history of every attendee that responded.”
“Zahid owes it to the public to better explain through what channels Khatatba gained access to the event on Parliament Hill. Zahid must commit her Friendship Group to end all association with those who distort the Holocaust and pursue antisemitic agendas,” a B’nai Brith Canada statement read. “If Zahid is unable to do the bare minimum and disavow Holocaust-distorting media attending her Friendship Group events, we consider her unqualified to serve as Chair.”
In Question Period, Conservative deputy leader Melissa Lantsman called Khatatba a “dangerous antisemite, Holocaust denier and a terrorist sympathizer,” saying his publication has referred to the Holocaust as a hoax and “the biggest lie in history.” Recently, he cheered the Jerusalem terror attacks that killed 16 year old Canadian Aryeh Shechopek.
Nabil Nassar has praised the 1972 murder of Israeli athletes at the Munich Olympics, praised the 1929 massacre of Jews in Hebron, and proclaimed Dalal al-Mughrabi, a terrorist responsible for a 1978 slaughter of 37 Israelis- including 12 children – a role model for Palestinian women. Stating “heroism has no gender”, she was lauded for having “laid a foundation for the republic.”
“Who invited Khatatba? Who invited Nassar? Zahid’s office has said that they have “nothing more to add” reported @Antisemitism.ca. “This response is the antithesis of accountability. How do these hateful figures have such access to our politicians?” They also noted, “Several lobbyist/advocacy organizations (at the gathering) have stayed silent,” publishing photos of Stephen Brown, CEO of NCCM, Michael Bueckert of CJPME and Corey Balsam of Independent Jewish Voices.
“The more we look into this gathering, the more disturbing it gets,” said Michael Mostyn, Chief Executive Officer of B’nai Brith Canada. “What is it about the Canada-Palestine Parliamentary Friendship Group that attracts these types of individuals? This controversy cannot be allowed to be swept under the rug.”

“This is a catastrophic failure of security on Parliament Hill. This is a catastrophic moral failure on the part of our politicians” – @handsardish
At the beginning of this unwinding of the fantasy that Canada is a safe place for Zionists and Jews, was Elizabeth May. As tallied by Honest Reporting Canada, she was one of 11 MP’s at the all-party affair, including NDP radicals Niki Ashton and Matthew Green, and Transport Minister Omar Alghabra.
The first news from this ‘solidarity’ event was not about the violence-supporting activists who attended, but May’s remarks from the podium.
She stated that “I take my marching orders from the permanent representative of Palestine to Canada.”
That would be Mona Abuamara, the Chief Representative of the Palestinian General Delegation, who is also no stranger to Khataba – or to spreading anti-Israel, antisemitic lies.
Earlier on Wednesday, she posted a photo on Twitter with the description “A message painted on the rubble of the Isfy School demolished by the Israeli occupation about a week ago in Masafer Yatta, Palestine 🇵🇸 while it was in session and with the students inside.”
The building, built illegally with no permit, no plumbing, no electricity, BUT with an IDF training space nearby, was evacuated prior to the demolition. So no one was at risk – but Mona and Liz aren’t the types to let facts get in the way of a good anti-IDF narrative. After all, May claimed that the way Israel treats Palestinians is “worse than apartheid.”
“Particularly at a time when Canadians are increasingly concerned about foreign interference in Canadian politics, no Canadian elected official should get their “marching orders” from a foreign government & its official representatives,” tweeted CIJA. “Failing to properly vet an individual w/ a history of Holocaust denial in attending an event on the Hill sends a troubling message to Jewish community. The community can only assume combatting #Antisemitism is not a priority & we are not a priority.”
Mahmoud Khalil published a photo on his IG account of him posing on Israeli Flags and has called for “Auschwitz Superhero”. Such actions were not a barrier to his attending an event sponsored by the Canada – Palestine Parliamentary Friendship Group. (Photo: IsrealNow)
Not forgotten in the uproar was Laith Marouf, as the Trudeau government’s problems with antisemitism erupted within their administration with the scandalous funding of him as a consultant to instruct broadcasters on “anti-racism”. His name came up more than a few times, but what was missed by most was his interview appearance on an Arab network recorded by MEMRI.
He blamed his federal contract being canceled on “Zionists (who) want to circumvent the laws because they are unable to defend Zionism as an identity…. The social networks heeded their orders and de-platformed me.” Promising a court date to fight Heritage Department demands he refund his fees, he compared his plight with Indigenous Canadians.
“We have an open war on all fronts with the Zionists… this an attrition of the enemy.”
“The Zionists in Palestine not only rule an important and strategic land… but also as Zionists living in western countries, they serve as an integral part of the ruling system. For example, if someone wants to run in the elections in Canada, he must obtain the support of the Zionists in the Canadian media.”
Keep in mind that until August, our MP’s would have had no problem having Marouf join their “International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People” that the United Nations commemorates. That’s the same UN that just voted 90-30 to commemorate the “Nakba” as promoted by the pro-terrorist crowd.
While politicians can claim they weren’t necessarily familiar with Khataba, Nassar and Khalil (in most cases a dubious excuse), the elephant in the room is that there were people there who did know exactly who they are and what they stand for — the “local Palestinian community” in Ottawa.

Having proven to be uninterested in rooting out the connections between federal bureaucrats and Marouf, perhaps CIJA can do something proactive rather than reactive for a change.
They can start identifying who the gatekeepers are on both sides of the door that opened for Khataba, Nassar and Khalil. The trio were presented to a cabinet minister, a party leader and other MP’s as respectable members of the Palestinian lobby.
Similarly, Jewish leaders also need to take action about CJPME, as explained by @AntisemitismCA:
“With the start of holiday season, let’s hope that lobbyists “Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East” stop spreading antisemitic tropes of angel-killing like in this holiday video showing Israelis shooting a missile at the Angel Gabriel. CJPME has been granted $5825 of federal funding. On Facebook, they have advertised student grants in Firas Al-Najim’s violent and antisemitic “Canadian Defenders for Human Rights” Facebook group.”
(For those keeping score, BDS leader Firas was scheduled to appear with Hamas and Hezbollah leaders at the “Destroy Israel” Palestine Conference.)
“Are videos like these a good use of taxpayer funds? CJPME has met & lobbied MPs like Mike Morrice, Heather McPherson, and Chandra Arya. They were also invited to Parliament alongside Nazih Khatatba. It would be easy to laugh and dismiss such a clown of an organization if there were not willing circus-goers.”
