The latest round of mass protests in Iran began over the death of 22-year-old woman Mahsa Amini. She died on September 16 at the hands of the so-called morality police for violating Iran’s mandatory veiling rules in public.
Amini’s tragic death is yet another reminder of how the Islamist rulers in Tehran have failed to listen to the demands of the Iranian people. Opposition to the compulsory veil, or hijab, is one of a long list of public grievances.
The violence that led to Amy’s death was no accident. This is part of Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei’s attitude towards any political opposition. He continues to believe that violent repression will force the protesters to retreat. But his policy choices only deepen public anger against the Islamic Republic.
Not only does Khamenei incite the Iranian people against the regime, but his insistence on compulsory hijab is dividing the Islamic clergy.
The death toll has almost doubled to 35 as Iranian security forces quell more than a week of protests after the death of a young woman in custody.
Angry demonstrators have been on the streets of Iran’s major cities, including the capital Tehran, for eight straight nights following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini.
As we know, there were mass protests in Iran not only now but also in 2019. One of the reasons for the emergence of this people’s movement is the low level of the socio-economic situation in Iran. In addition, human rights violations and social network bans are the reasons for the popular movement.
Iran, which is rich in oil fields, instead of solving the social problems inside the country, gives money to terrorist groups and finances them. It seems that the government has a hard time keeping the people under control with total control.

Iranian society no longer wants to live in a state ruled by religious rules but in a legal-secular state. Apart from Afghanistan during the Taliban era, which had stricter regulations on women’s clothing, Iran is the only country in the world today that has a mandatory hijab law.
There will be all kinds of pressure on the regime to change course. But as long as Khamenei is alive, it will be very difficult.
U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said the new measures “will help counter the Iranian government’s efforts to monitor and censor its citizens.” The uprising against the regime in Iran will become more and more massive.
