Since January 2022, Honest Reporting Canada has called on CBC to correct or retract two-dozen false reports on Israel. One example was fake news about Israel spread by Nakba Day propagandists in Winnipeg. (Image: honestreporting.ca)

When it comes to Israel and the Middle-East conflicts initiated by the Palestinian Authority’s terrorism program and the Gazan terrorist groups against Israel the CBC and the mainstream media such as, for example the CTV, The Globe and Mail, the Toronto Star, the alleged guardians of our democracy, change the old motto: “All the news fit to broadcast and print to “unless unavoidable, not all the news fit to print”; “the news as we choose to see them”; “the news based on our own facts”; “to provide Canadians everywhere with journalism that matters according to us”, and as someone put it “no Jews, no news”.
CBC and the mainstream media (save for the Toronto Sun and some others) have, at times implicitly and often explicitly, by laziness, wilful ignorance or sheer prejudice have been pummelling Israel and Israelis.
And, in the process they feed and incite the antisemitism and anti-Zionism of Canadians with similar states or frames of mind to engage in ignorant and vile behaviour against the Jewish community and its members; their institutions and businesses.
I reached this conclusion by following the Canadian press on my own, through the reports of Honest Reporting Canada (“HRC”) and a number of, foreign news publications in the U.S, Europe and Israel.
For some useful introductions to the subject written by journalists in the know I refer you to: Joan O’Callaghan, Canada: Open Letter Lobbies Journalists on How to Cover the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict-The “woke” agenda of tarnished journalism FrontPage Mag, May21,2021; Barbara Kay, Left-wing media engages in out of control Israel Bashing, Honest Reporting Canada, June 7,2021 see also: Burak Bekdil (Turkish writer) The West’s Nauseating “Post-Truth Over the Gaza War, BESA Centre Perspectives Paper No.2066,June 7,2021.
Further, the lack of factual information, balanced news presented in factually correct contexts allows and may, in fact, reinforce the religious beliefs and/or ideologies of refugees and immigrants who
a. cannot or do not wish to leave back home, their hate of Jews and Israel;
b. refuse to send back home these beliefs and ideologies even after they become Canadian citizens and supposedly espouse the dominant Canadian values, and
c. worse, transmit these prejudices and hatreds to their children in person and through their education.
Yes, journalism as practiced in Canada, is on its way to becoming a major feeder of antisemitism and hate in the country; see for example, Michael Levitt, One-sided media coverage is helping fuel antisemitism in Canada, Toronto Star, May 18,2021

Four propositions about the reporting of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in Canada
The first is the old adage: “5 Things you cannot take back: A stone after its thrown, a word once its spoken, an occasion once it is missed, an action when it is done, and time once it has passed.”
The old adage adapted to the matter at hand goes: words published, and news broadcasted cannot be retrieved; and to the extent the words are corrected, once they have been written or uttered, there is no guarantee that the persons who read or heard the words or seen the news will necessarily hear, see or read the corrections.
There are indeed cases, by no means in all cases, where the CBC and some other impugned news media upon receiving a complaint from HRC and its subscribers, publicly admit the error of their ways and make the necessary and proper changes in a timely basis and more particularly in a manner readily noticeable by the readers and audiences. And there are cases where the correction itself raises another serious issue.
There are also cases such as that of the Globe and Mail that carries on with its sanitised characterisation of Hamas as a militant group, despite the fact that Canada as well as many countries in Europe unmistakably it is: a terrorist group.
The second proposition is: “You are entitled to your own opinion but you are not entitled to your own facts”. Daniel Moynihan speaking during his tenure as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.
The third one is: “In war, the first casualty is the truth”.
The fourth proposition is: “A lie gets halfway across the world before the truth has got a chance to put its shoes on.” Winston Churchill.
In the estimation of Dogan Akman, “journalism as practiced in Canada, is on its way to becoming a major feeder of antisemitism and hate in the country.” (Photo: File)
The coverage of the Gaza war provides an excellent illustration of how in Canada those responsible for writing, reporting and directing the news, and the rest who supervise news websites, select and interview guests, handle the news, act in disregard of the foregoing four propositions to the detriment of Israel and of the Canadian Jewish community – inevitably victimised by supporters of Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad and the Palestinian Authority and straightforward antisemites.
Since January 2022, HRC called on CBC alone to correct or retract two-dozen false reports on Israel.
As a HRC commentator put it: “There does not seem to be a real appetite in CBC for accountability. I want them to be objective in their reporting. But they’re very partisan, very prejudiced. It’s widespread, not a particular program, both radio and television”
Honest Reporting Canada provides, for each of the foregoing three years, among others, the cases where it took to task the CBC, mainstream and other media for their failure to abide by the cannons of responsible journalism.
