A new conflict started on the border of Azerbaijan and Armenia on September 13. Armenia openly refuses to sign a peace treaty with Azerbaijan. After the meeting held in Brussels on August 31, Armenia resorted to provocation once again.

It should also be noted that Armenia often overshadows the peace talks by stating the status of Nagorno-Karabakh. Parallel to this, the statement of “geopolitical change in the region is unacceptable” came from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran.

The opening of the Zangezur corridor is one of the main lines of the peace process. Azerbaijan should create a “buffer territory” to protect its sovereign territory. After the second Karabakh war, Armenia repeatedly committed provocations on the state border.

For example, we can say that Turkey fought with PKK, and YPG and advanced 30 km inside Syria and fought with terrorists.  Frequent violations of the border in the direction of Kalbajar and Lachin should speed up the process of creating a buffer zone.

In 1920, the territory of Zangezur was forcibly torn from Azerbaijan by Soviet Russia and given to Armenia. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken sees Russia as the cause of the border conflict.

He noted that Russia can rekindle the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia to divert attention from Ukraine. As we know, the line of state borders between Azerbaijan and Armenia has not been defined.

An interesting point is that in this matter America and Russia are competing countries, but they do not support Azerbaijan. It is easier to control Armenia, which is in the hands of great powers. And the big powers that are jealous of Azerbaijan’s growing power in the region will try to prevent it from their point of view.

Iran also openly supports Armenia in the issue of the Zangezur Corridor, because Iran knows that if the corridor is opened, its influence in the region will weaken even more. Recently, Armenia has been seeking help from Iran rather than Russia.

The recent Turkish-Greece tension, the Ukraine-Russia war and the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia show that the scale of the conflicts in the region will grow even more. The Armenian leadership should sign the peace agreement soon.

The second visit of US officials to Armenia took place in the last two months. Bill Burns, director of the US intelligence CIA, visited Armenia in July. Yesterday, Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi visited Yerevan. Midterm elections to the House of Representatives will be held in the United States in November.

As we know, the Armenian issue is used before the elections in the USA and France. Most likely, Nancy Pelosi is making this trip to gather voters for herself.

The second version is that the USA wants to further increase its influence in Armenia. The current government of Armenia is oriented toward the West. But the control of the army is in the hands of Russia. Besides, there are US laboratories in Armenia. Russia does not want to see Nikol Pashinyan at the head of the government. After the second Karabakh war, Robert Kocharyan wanted to come to power, but he was not allowed to do so.

After the recent conflict on the Azerbaijan-Armenia border, a very complicated political situation has arisen in the region. Although Russia is waging a war in Ukraine, it will always try to keep the South Caucasus in its sphere of influence. The recent activity of the USA in Armenia will further increase the tension.

Armenia, which easily uses the Lachin corridor, does not want to give Azerbaijan a corridor through its territory. Pelosi’s visit to Yerevan emboldened the Armenian government even more. Anti-Russian slogans are raised in Armenia.

Against the background of the ongoing political processes, it would be better for Great Britain to provide political support to Azerbaijan. This will lead to the neutrality of other Western countries. Great Britain showed its political support to Azerbaijan in the second Karabakh war.
