The headquarters of Canada’s national broadcaster, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, is in Toronto. The network is well aware the city counts among its residents the largest population of Jews – 200,000 strong – in the country. Many of the greatest stars ever heard on CBC Radio and seen on CBC-TV have been Jewish, including Linda Frum, Lorne Green, Wayne AND Shuster.

Yet somehow, based on our scan of the CBC website, “professional journalists” on the CBC payroll have chosen not to report on what happened at Yeshiva Gedolah last Thursday.

This is based on a Tuesday night review using various relevant search terms on the CBC site.

Now we all know that CBC types spend a lot of time on social media and take note of stories that are broken or being followed by their competitors.

So, how did other outlets in Toronto describe the incident at the Jewish school?

Here are the reports from other news outlets, with headlines and details one would think would have aroused a public broadcaster with a budget provided by the Trudeau government in excess of $1.2B, to pay attention:

Police charge man who allegedly showed up to North York Jewish school with weapon and said ‘I want to kill Jews’ – Toronto Star, Friday May 27:

Toronto Police have charged a man who allegedly showed up to a North York Jewish school with a weapon, yelled at students, assaulted a staff member and said “I want to kill Jews.”

Uber employee arrested in suspected hate crime, assault outside Jewish school in North York – CityNews Toronto, May 27:

Toronto police claim the man was riding his bicycle and was confronted by students for being on school property. The man returned a short time later and began yelling anti-Semitic comments at the students. Officers say the man then engaged with school staff, and a physical confrontation took place, during which a staff member was threatened and assaulted.

Police investigating suspected hate-motivated incident involving armed man at Jewish school – CP24 via CTV News Toronto, Friday May 27:

Kyle McLeod, 21, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with a variety of offences, including assault with a weapon. He is set to appear in court on July 28… Toronto police’s Hate Crime Unit is involved and is investigating this incident as a suspected hate-motivated incident. Uber has confirmed that the man charged is one of their delivery persons.

The staff member who was assaulted is a former IDF veteran employed at the Yeshiva as a cook. After being punched in the face he tackled the perp and held him for the authorities, who found he was carrying a knife.

CBC runs all sorts of stories about “anti-racism”, violent attacks at schools, and Uber. They bring on “experts”, convene panels of talking heads, and narrate the discussion.

They also run stories about the IDF. Lots of them.

But when an IDF veteran heroically disarms an Uber driver threatening to kill 30 children at a Jewish school in Toronto, CBC doesn’t think the public should know about it.

Can you imagine if a Jewish parent takes their concerns about the safety of their kids at a Jewish school in say, Calgary or Vancouver or Winnipeg, to their local police or MLA, and says “At the school in Toronto”?  The cops and politicians outside Toronto would have NO IDEA what they were talking about.

It isn’t just a CBC problem. The Globe and Mail, the National Post, Global News, none of the regional newspapers covered what happened either. Did a single radio talk show discuss the incident, especially in light of the shootings and failed emergency response at the middle school in Uvalde, Texas? Not that we can find.

This is why TheJ.ca is important to the Jewish community not only in Canada but worldwide.

Without storytellers, historians and reporters manning the keyboards and ensuring OUR JEWISH NEWS is distributed to a public audience, the harassment and endangerment of our people in Canada is minimized, ignored, and rabbit-holed.

You can’t count on CBC, the major newspapers, or broadcasters like CTV or Global, they’ve just proven it. We will always hold the secular media accountable – as well as politicians and government operations. If you’re a pro-Israel Canadian, the best way to explain it is we are on the front lines.

We need your help to fund this platform as we ramp up, and help us fulfill our mandate as defenders of Zionism and the Jewish people in Canada. Our goal is to expand TheJ.ca and add more features such as podcasts and video capacity. This is a full-time occupation in a difficult economy and costs are increasing at a rapid pace. I know you all know that.

Whether by advertising campaigns, sponsoring features, or directly funding Jewish Journalism, you can help us continue to make a difference in how Canadian Jews are represented and ensure their voices are heard.

If you leave it up to CBC, the Jews of Canada are in big trouble.

Thank you for choosing TheJ.Ca as your source for Canadian Jewish News.

We do news differently!

Our positioning as a Zionist News Media platform sets us apart from the rest. While other Canadian Jewish media are advocating increasingly biased progressive political and social agendas, TheJ.Ca is providing more and more readers with a welcome alternative and an ideological home.

We revealed the incursion of anti-Israel progressive elements such as IfNotNow into our communities. We have exposed the distorted hateful agenda of the “progressive” left political radicals who brought Linda Sarsour to our cities, and we were first to report on many disturbing incidents of Nazi-based hate towards Jews across Canada.

But we can’t do it alone. We need your HELP!

Our ability to thrive and grow in 2020 and beyond depends on the generosity of committed readers and supporters like you.
