Since the Taliban took over Afghanistan, there have been reports that radical Islam is on the ascent in Bangladesh.
A female member of the radical Ansar Al Islam, alongside some members of the JMB and Jamaat E-Islam, were arrested. Simultaneously, a madrassa student committed a provocative action at a Hindu holy site.
According to the Observer Research Foundation, “There is a risk of the re-emergence of home-grown radical Islamist groups as a result of the Taliban takeover. Taking advantage of the digital means and social media, radical groups are misrepresenting or misinterpreting the various factions of the incident. Social media like Facebook and Twitter have already seen myriads of posts and comments sympathising with the Taliban, more importantly, linking the occupation to the “victory of Islam.” At least two radicalised persons have tried to reach Afghanistan from Bangladesh via India to “offer their services” to the Taliban government.”
Shipan Kumer Basu, who heads the World Hindu Struggle Committee, believes that the Taliban is an imminent threat to all Southeastern Asian countries: “Following the death of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, a Pakistani separatist leader in Kashmir, they raised their flat at half-mast at the Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka. In the future, the Taliban will try to take over Kashmir in collaboration with Pakistan and if they succeed, they may try to take over India and Bangladesh in stages. I think the peace-loving countries in the world should unite and take a firm stance against this.”
According to a recent MEMRI report, feminist protesters on the streets of Kabul have concurred with Basu’s assessment that Pakistan stands behind the Taliban taking root in Afghanistan. As a result, they chanted: “Death to Pakistan.”
As MEMRI noted, “The anti-Pakistan protests, which were held in Herat and other cities, reflect a deeply buried understanding among Afghans that it was the Pakistani military’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) that planned and engineered a long-running bloodshed in Afghanistan that has gone on for the past four decades by aiding and nurturing the current Afghan Taliban leaders after 9/11 and their predecessors, with American and Saudi aid, during the 1980s.”
“In this context, the visit of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt.-Gen. Faiz Hameed to Kabul seems to have come as a reminder to Afghans that Pakistan is the new invader of Afghanistan through its proxy: the Islamic Emirate, the Afghan Taliban organization that America courted over the past few years, ultimately helping the jihadist organization to recapture power on August 15, 2021,” the report noted. “Lt.-Gen. Faiz Hameed visited Kabul to mentor the Afghan Taliban leaders on forming a government that is to Pakistan’s liking. Pakistani ISI is known as the creator and nurturer of jihadi terror organizations in Pakistan and its surrounding region: Afghanistan and Kashmir.”
However sadly, the reach of the Taliban also extends into India itself.
Veteran Bollywood actor Nasiruddin Shah has released a video condemning a group of Indian Muslims for praising the Taliban’s attack on Afghanistan. The veteran actor described a sector of Indian Muslims celebrating the return of the Taliban to power in Afghanistan as dangerous. In response, some Indian Muslims started abusing the national award-winning actor on social media platforms for not being a “true Muslim.”

Basu expressed concern that the insult made to Nasiruddin Shah proved that there are many Taliban supporters in India working secretly to destabilize the country. He added that the central government of India should take strict action to curb all militant activities, including the Taliban.
Prasanna Kumar Roy, a prominent businessman from West Bengal, India and chief financial advisor to the World Hindu Struggle Committee, said fundamentalist Muslims in Bangladesh continue to try to suppress Hindu leaders by falsely accusing them of insulting religion: “Two days ago, local fundamentalists started spreading rumors that Shri Gourangar, the president of Bhola district’s Puju Udjapan Parishad, insulted the religion. The police arrested him yesterday and sent him to jail, which is highly reprehensible.”
He added that the government of India, the US, Great Britain, and Israel should speak out in favor of Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh, warning that if not, the Taliban will soon emerge there also, which is a serious threat to world peace and security.
