In recent days, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh blamed Israel for an explosion that damaged an Iranian container ship named the Iran Shahr-e-kord in the Mediterranean Sea. This came after Israeli Minister Miri Regev accused Iran of standing behind a recent oil spill off the coast of Israel that caused the greatest ecological crisis in the Jewish state in years and after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Iran of attacking an Israeli owned ship named the Helois Ray in the Persian Gulf.
The question remains, what stands behind all of this?
Prominent Middle East scholar Dr. Mordechai Kedar proclaimed: “As much as I understood, Israel attacked Iranian ships on several occasions. First, if this is correct, this is a clear message from Israel to Iran that any Iranian attack will be answered decisively by Israel. This is an especially important message, especially in the background that Saudi Arabia never retaliated against anything that they did to Saudi Arabia. It is a big difference. It shows that Israel is not afraid of Iran.”
Kedar, an Arabic scholar at the prestigious Bar Ilan University, continued: “Secondly, Israel hints to everyone including the Americans that Israel is not easy prey. What Israel has to say should be heard. Whoever wants to come to terms with the Iranians should not ignore the Israeli point of view. I think the address for these attacks sends a message first to the Iranians but also the United States of America.”
Former Israel Consul General Dr. Yitzhak Ben Gad concurred with Dr. Kedar and added that Israel is now fighting a new war at sea: “If you want to attack us, you are not untouchable. All of the oil ships that Iran utilizes to bring oil to Syria and Venezuela can be a target.” Former Israel Consul General Dr. Ben Gad hinted that the fact that foreign media outlets reported that Israel attacked an Iranian ship in the Mediterranean should be taken as a warning: “Israel has an Iran policy to not tolerate a nuclear Iran by any means. In the past, Israel targeted the Iraqi and Syrian nuclear projects. We would do it again against Iran. Even Biden understands this point.”
He stressed the fact that the Abraham Accords gave Israel a broad coalition against Iran works to our benefit and that Biden got the message, leading him not to return to the nuclear deal until Iran returns to compliance, an act that Iran is unlikely to do.
Israeli MK Ayoob Kara (Likud) warned that the Islamic Republic of Iran is a fanatical religious dictatorship that is planning for the next war against the Jewish state, and that this stands behinds Israel’s actions:
“The Iranians send much logistical supplies to any country that they can dominate, especially Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and Libya. They know that Israel is only the one together with America that could stop Iranian power in the Middle East. They engage in terrorist activity, as well as propaganda, so that they can do different actions in the sea, air, and ports to make the countries in the region afraid of them. They even attack ports not far away from Israel. They do the same thing in the Persian Gulf countries. They do everything to occupy the area and to expand the Shia Crescent.”
He warned that the only way to stop these nefarious Iranian actions is to stand up to them and to never appease them.

“The tensions between Israel and Iran are increasing every single day that passes,” according to Sirwan Mansouri, a Kurdish journalist based in the Middle East.
He referred to a long history of tension between the two countries. “From its inception, the Islamic Republic of Iran has chanted ‘death to Israel.’ On the other side, Israeli officials have warned that its existential existence is a red line. Although the mullah’s have tried to harm Israel through their proxy groups Hezbollah and Hamas in recent years, this confrontation became more significant after the Syrian Civil War, where the IRGC Quds Force was deployed on Syrian soil.”
In the present day, “Iran is trying to locate its troops near the Golan Heights to monitor Israeli movements, while Israel has conducted more than 200 direct attacks against Iranian military forces on Syria soil, which they have no ability to respond to. The Wall Street Journal has published a report claiming that Israel has targeted more than 12 Iranian Ships in the Red Sea during the last two years, which were carrying oil and weapons to Syria,” he noted. “This report also added that the aim of this attack by Israel was to prevent the Iranian regime from equipping its proxies in Syria, who do activities against Israel. The Iranian officials remained silent as always and had no reaction on it.”
Mansouri claimed that Joe Biden’s Iran policy has caused the situation to deteriorate: “Since Biden came into power and promised to rejoin JCPOA, thus granting more power to Iran, it seems that this has given the regime more courage to confront Israel and the West.”
“From the day after electing Biden as president of the US and his promise to re-join nuclear deal, it is seemed that Iran has started a new cycle of its escalations in the Middle East to earn more advantages in the case of doing any possible negotiations in the future and since Israel is a strategic ally of United States, Iran has targeted it. Regardless of which party that is in power in Israel, all of the Israeli officials have always warned Iran about its provocative activities in the Middle East and stressed that they will respond to any attack stronger and more powerfully.”
He concluded, “As Israel has warned Biden of re-joining JCPOA and Biden is silent on Iran activities, a war between Israel and Iran in the region is on the horizon and may include all the region. If there will be one, Israel’s new allies in the Persian Gulf will help. In case of there being any war, destroying the mullah’s criminal regime must be the main goal.”
