This week the largest synagogue for Israeli Defence Force use, Or Olam, was opened at Camp Ariel Sharon. The 350 seat synagogue was donated by Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF) Western Region Founder and Chairman Emeritus, Leo David, and his wife, Ruth. FIDF Executive Director in Israel Brig. Gen. (Res.) Effi Idan represented the organization.

“This is probably the most beautiful, and definitely the largest, synagogue I have seen in the IDF,’ said Idan at the inauguration.

“It could not be possible without the donation from Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF), a non-profit that gives unconditional love to the soldiers of Israel while understanding that the IDF does not only protect the state of Israel but Jewish people wherever they are.”

The new synagogue will be used by all soldiers and commanders who serve and train on the base and includes a study room for Torah lessons and a special class for soldiers undergoing conversion.

FIDF was established in 1981 by a group of Holocaust survivors as a not-for-profit organization in support of the soldiers who protect Israel and Jews worldwide. FIDF has  24 chapters throughout the United States and Panama and over 150,000 supporters.

FIDF builds, refurbishes, and maintains buildings including sports centers, culture halls, synagogues, memorial rooms, swimming pools, sports facilities, and soldiers’ homes for the wellbeing of IDF soldiers. FIDF has recently completed $43 million in construction of 12 wellbeing and education facilities at the IDF Training Campus in the Negev, and its new projects include seven facilities serving the IDF’s elite units at a total cost of $14.5 million.

Thank you for choosing TheJ.Ca as your source for Canadian Jewish News.

We do news differently!

Our positioning as a Zionist News Media platform sets us apart from the rest. While other Canadian Jewish media are advocating increasingly biased progressive political and social agendas, TheJ.Ca is providing more and more readers with a welcome alternative and an ideological home.

We revealed the incursion of anti-Israel progressive elements such as IfNotNow into our communities. We have exposed the distorted hateful agenda of the “progressive” left political radicals who brought Linda Sarsour to our cities, and we were first to report on many disturbing incidents of Nazi-based hate towards Jews across Canada.

But we can’t do it alone. We need your HELP!

Our ability to thrive and grow in 2020 and beyond depends on the generosity of committed readers and supporters like you.

Monthly support is a great way to help us sustain our operations. We greatly appreciate any contributions you can make to support Jewish Journalism.

We thank you for your ongoing support.
