You know you’ve made it when talk show hosts Jay Leno and James Corden invite you on their stage to perform. Well, at least a virtual stage, as in the example of a Zoom call lately with Leno – just the latest in a long string of international recognition for Haim Goldenberg.
He’s been wowing audiences with his sleight-of-hand, mentalist tricks and magic for decades, and it’s probably safe to say that he’s Canada’s answer to David Copperfield.
Back when he was a child, Goldenberg, like most kids, wished he had superpowers, like cartoon superheroes. Yet it was around the impressionable age of six that Goldenberg’s childlike fantasy somehow seemed attainable.
As one day, Goldenberg stumbled upon internationally-known mentalist Uri Geller (a fellow Israeli), who made many believe he had attained inexplicable mind-reading powers.
Believing that in some way, he too could have an edge by developing his own ‘supernatural power’ and mind manipulation, Goldenberg was hooked, and made it life long journey.

Many children grow out of wanting to become a fireman or Superman; however, for Goldenberg, this was much more.
As a young boy, he would often corral friends and family, for hours, trying to mimic Geller’s mind-control techniques, from bending forks, to more intricate tricks. His mother was so thrilled to see her son put in so much effort, that she snuck in his room at night to bend some spoons, so that he’d feel like he accomplished this.

Very quickly Goldenberg learned that ‘mentalism’ is all about being an engaging entertainer, who takes you on a ride of disbelief. “I worked very hard at sharpening my craft. Many people think that the process is simple, yet the success is very much dependent on development and consistency,” Goldenberg told TheJ.ca.
In 2003, Goldenberg and family settled in Toronto, and he was soon performing at major venues such as City Playhouse, Laugh Resort and the renowned Second City. Soon enough, he was getting noticed in local newspapers, television stations, and his own Israeli community in Toronto.
A decision was made by him, and wife and manager Miriam Goldenberg, to go “all in” – they would put together a television pilot, called Goldmind, to show mass viewers everything that Goldenberg was capable of.
It took off: Airing on TVtropolis, GoldMind became a 13-episode half-hour television series hosted by Goldenberg, that explored the mysterious connection he has with ordinary people. In 2009, the show was nominated for two Gemini Awards (Best Reality Program or Series, Best Director). Currently, he is working on a follow-up show.
When I asked him about his keys to success, he answered as though he was reading a fortune cookie rolled up into a horoscope:
“Be true to yourself and work hard. Live your passion, but don’t expect it to come easy. It’s all a choice and only you can be held responsible.”
Spoken like a true man of mystery and magic.

We do news differently!
Our positioning as a Zionist News Media platform sets us apart from the rest. While other Canadian Jewish media are advocating increasingly biased progressive political and social agendas, TheJ.Ca is providing more and more readers with a welcome alternative and an ideological home.
We revealed the incursion of anti-Israel progressive elements such as IfNotNow into our communities. We have exposed the distorted hateful agenda of the “progressive” left political radicals who brought Linda Sarsour to our cities, and we were first to report on many disturbing incidents of Nazi-based hate towards Jews across Canada.
But we can’t do it alone. We need your HELP!
