In our isolation, we have more time to focus on internal qualities, and talking to one another

Has love during COVID-19 taken a time out? “Not at all,” says Jewish matchmaker, Eve Pearl Potok who has catered to the needs of marriage-minded Jewish singles in Toronto for almost 30 years.

“I am very much enjoying our government-imposed time out. It’s like every day is Shabbat,” Potok explains. “We have been given the blessing of time to reflect, to rediscover what makes us tick, to reassess what’s important to us, to communicate with G-d. This blessing would not be available if we were distracted by the demands of our everyday lives.”

She maintains singles can use this time in a similar way, to think about what they bring to the relationship, and the qualities they are looking for in a life partner. It’s about counting one’s blessings, and if they are courageous enough to do so, to look inward and honestly assess if their egos and expectations have gotten in the way of being in a committed relationship.

It is important to get this internal piece right because, “how we perceive ourselves is who we will ultimately attract into our lives,” she adds.

Look for ‘heart’ qualities, Potok advises: “As long as you are positive, and look for the beauty in people as a whole, you will meet the right person when the time is right. Once the world returns to the new normal, if singles have used this time to brush and dust themselves off, they will attract and recognize their soulmate.”

“Touching, kissing and physical intimacy, at least for now, is off the table,” she says, as COVID-19 has forced us to slow things down. Potok encourages singles to be realistic, and to recognize what qualities are wants and what are needs. For example, men often want to meet women who are too young for them, that’s a want; and women want to meet men that are wealthy, another want.

“In our isolation, we have more time to focus on internal qualities, and talking to one another, rather than being distracted by just the external attributes. It can take up to three face-to-face meetings with the same person for a spark to ignite, and to know that there is chemistry. You should meet in person to get an idea of someone’s real essence.”

Potok lastly suggests the unattached take this unique time to “recharge your batteries, and be thankful for all of the large and small blessings.”

Thank you for choosing TheJ.Ca as your source for Canadian Jewish News.

We do news differently!

Our positioning as a Zionist News Media platform sets us apart from the rest. While other Canadian Jewish media are advocating increasingly biased progressive political and social agendas, TheJ.Ca is providing more and more readers with a welcome alternative and an ideological home.

We revealed the incursion of anti-Israel progressive elements such as IfNotNow into our communities. We have exposed the distorted hateful agenda of the “progressive” left political radicals who brought Linda Sarsour to our cities, and we were first to report on many disturbing incidents of Nazi-based hate towards Jews across Canada.

But we can’t do it alone. We need your HELP!

Our ability to thrive and grow in 2020 and beyond depends on the generosity of committed readers and supporters like you.

Monthly support is a great way to help us sustain our operations. We greatly appreciate any contributions you can make to support Jewish Journalism.

We thank you for your ongoing support.
